Approaching Ice Poems

In the spirit of Linda Bierds, with whom the author studied, Approaching Ice is a fantastic blend of history and imagination. The poems document with astonishing detail the hopes, wonderment, and hardships of polar explorers through the ages, beginning in the early nineteenth century and continuing into the twenty-first century, interspersing poems on her own history of polar exploration, imagined and actual.
