The first time i ever read this book i was about 8 (slightly concerning) i was given it as one of my big girl books from my grandparents, i was the only reader in the family and they took pride in especially when i was reading above my age group so i believe it was one of my first adult books.

i remember when I was younger having absolutely no clue what half the story was about i just remember feeling betrayed by what Gregory did cause at the time i loved him now i look back i am concerned.

The book mysteriously went missing, so i believe my mum did some research on what i was reading (Thank God) however now i reached an older age i was desperate to get my hands on it again to see how traumatising for a child it really was. the hunt for the book was hard and it wasn’t shipped over to my country a lot so i gave in and bought it on my kindle (i prefer a hardback but kindle for travelling) and boy the book is exactly how i remembered it.

And oh, my dear lord am i glad that book went missing.

we get a couple of chapters of Tristan and ivy being the cutest, their first kiss will always give me butterflies. i wouldn’t say they had a certain trope to them just friends helping out friends and falling in love, and then boom he dies. not a spoiler whole point of the book. am i disappointed? yes. because that boy when alive was a Jem, taking in Ivy’s cat before they were even dating was incredibly sweet for me, Tho to my friends, they were more weirded out (we have incredibly different taste in men). the accident scene was not too graphic cause i could not stomach a full-blown explanation of what they looked like and the damage. but it was written well and i could feel Ivy’s pain and heartbreak threw out the chapters where she’s recovering and longing for him.

Tristan’s becoming of Ivy’s angel made me happy, in a weird way. even Tho they were still young he could still see her even if she couldn’t. Elizabeth made me feel his frustration of wanting to touch and talk to his love but couldn’t just by a wall. She portrays him exactly how he was when he died. no turning into an angry ghost come to haunt people, just a lost boy wanting to find and help his one meaning in life. usually, i don’t believe in teenage pining but this story doesn’t make it so cheesy more of adults that have been in love for many years losing each other.

now let’s get down to Gregory. i hope, with every inch of my soul, that man rots away. And yes, I’ll admit I’m usually on the villain’s side, cause let’s face it their motive is usually pretty reasonable, but no, him? can leave. i can’t go on about him too much cause knowing myself i will give spoilers but one thing for peps that read this book, please, please, please do not hit on your stepsis and try to get with her a couple of months after her boyfriend died when you know your her safety net, thank you.

does this book scare me? yes. am i concerned for my younger self? yes because this is what moulded my love for people with red flags. will i read this again? definitely.
