Longer than it needed to be, but interesting unique plot.

I really enjoyed this book once I got into it. I started reading about two summers ago, got 20 pages in, and I was so bored I just stopped, but I'm really glad I finally picked it up and tried again. It wasn't the best book I've ever read, and sometimes plot coincidences seemed a little convenient and predictable, but the story was overall enjoyable.

I thought that "Unraveling" was the perfect book. It had a dash of romance mixed with action. It left you hanging and ready for the next book, "Unbreakable"!

Audiobook Review: Janelle gets hit by a truck and dies. She knows she’s dead. Yet all of a sudden she wakes to find Ben Michaels hovering over her. He did something. Though she had absolutely no idea what that “something” was, it brought her back to life, and she’s determined to get her questions answered. At the same time her FBI father is investigating a series of mysterious burn victims which may have to do with her accident in some way. And to top it all off, she realizes there’s a ticking clock… just 24 days until the world ends. Janelle’s on a mission to figure this all out, with the fate of the world in her hands. I was a bit confused in the beginning, not really sure what was happening at times. But man, was I interested in figuring it all out! More often than not if I’m clueless that far into a book I tend to put it to the side. Not with this one. I was completely invested and eager to see how it was all going to play out. I loved the development of the relationship between Janelle and Ben. Though a tad creepy and stalkerish at first glance when we discover that Ben’s been watching Janelle for a while, consumed with feelings for her for quite some time, yet Janelle never noticed him before. The banter between the two, mixed with the chemistry and way they clicked, was great. Kate Schorr was perfect as narrator, accurately portraying the different characters beautifully. I never had to question who was speaking, as it was always fully apparent. She nailed the spunky Janelle, while also perfectly getting down Ben’s sweetness and quiet nature. Fast-paced and action-packed, this sci-fi page-turner was much more enjoyable to me than most in this genre. I’m not a huge sci-fi fan, so I’m often hesitant when starting a book like this. Even though I was a bit lost once or twice, I was completely into the book, the characters, and the plot. Another great start to a sci-fi series that I’m so glad I decided to read. Can’t wait to continue one with this one! Find this review and others like it at Lost in Literature!

This book had a great plot and was very action packed. Janelle is getting ready to start her junior year of high school, but a few days before she is hit by a truck and she dies. A few minutes later she wakes up and sees a boy she has known for years but never really paid any attention to. Somehow he brought her back to life and fixed all her broken bones within minutes. She doesn't know what to think of Ben Michaels, but she knows that he somehow saved her life and she plans to find out how. After her accident she decides to go snooping in her dads office to see if she can find out more information about the man that hit her. Her dad happens to be a big time FBI agent, but while Janelle is snooping she stumbles upon something much bigger than her accident. There is a count down and the FBI doesn't know how to stop it or what its going to do. There also happen to be murders happening where the victims have been killed by radiation burns and the FBI can't identify most of the bodies. The man driving the truck that hit Janelle is one of the victims and they have no idea who he is. Tragedy strikes Janelle's life and she realizes that she needs to help solve this case or the world might end. She knows that somehow Ben is part of it but she is hoping that its not in a bad way because she is really starting to fall for him big time. Ok so Janelle is our main character in this book and I liked her. I wouldn't say that I loved her, at times she really has an attitude problem and it can be a little distracting, but most of the time I liked her. She has tons of spunk and she isn't afraid to speak her mind. She really loves her family even though they are really messed up at times. Her mom is bipolar and doesn't get out of bed most days. To cope with it her dad is a major work-alcoholic so hes not around much. She basically raised her little brother, because not long after he was born her moms depression set in. So I wouldn't say she has a great family life but she tries her best to make things work. After she dies she has a flashback of her life and realizes that she needs to be more grateful and active in her own life or she will wake up one day and her life will be an empty shell. Overall I really liked her as a character and felt that she developed and grew a lot through out the book. So I have to gush a little over Ben. I loved him and thought that he was just totally dreamy. He is the good looking bad boy type, but underneath that all he is a very loyal sweet guy. He has had a crush on Janelle for years but never felt that he should ever act on those feelings. He has some secrets that must be kept, but when Janelle gets hurt he can't sit there and watch her die when he can do something to save her. The chemistry between Ben and Janelle is very electric. Their relationship is bitter sweet but that made me love it even more. The plot in this book was amazing. There was a lot going on throughout the book and sometimes it was a little confusing but in the end I felt that the author brought it together very well. There were also a lot of surprising twists and turns that I didn't see coming. It was very action packed and flowed very well. Now there were a few things that I didn't love about this book. First the book was pretty vulgar which for me took away from the story a little bit. Second I felt that at times the book was very negative, I get that bad things have to happen but I felt that sometimes there were just to many heartbreaking moments. Sometimes if you overdo it I don't feel that a character can really bounce back like they need to. That being said I still really loved this book and I am really looking forward to the next book in the series. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that like Sci-fy books it really was a great read.
