more of a 2.5-2.75.. huh, interesting. this book was recommended to me because of the “hilarious banter”, the banter was just ok. i think because the expectation of this book having hilarious dialogue really set this book up for failure. was it funny? sometimes yeah, but not laugh out loud. the beginning of this book feels rushed, very rushed, like we are breezing thru backgrounds so fast. but the pacing does calm down and you will have a decent time with this book. however the FMC was…. not my type of girl. any girl who describes herself negatively as “acting like a girl” is an immediate eye roll from me.

This was honestly the only work romance that felt appropriate that I’ve ever read lol I loved their automatic chemistry and how they challenged and supported each other. Yeah their communication wasn’t great but where else do you expect to get the ~drama~ ?!

Oh tali and hayes!!! THEY SERVEDDD AND MORE!! this is more than just the trope grumpy boss x assisant!! a slow burn with well written characters and hilarious banter! both the main characters gave so much depth that you fall in love with them both! hayes’s character is so unexpected where as he falls for tali, he leaves behind his grumpy player persona and in the wake becomes this swoony lover boy who adores tali SO MUCH. tali is an aspiring author part time bartender and full time people pleaser for her family. she is such a lovable and relatable character that’s trying to figure out her life after a huge loss. they are perfect for each other especially with how similar their trust issues and how they both heal each other

Elizabeth O’Roark is a new to me author and I really enjoyed this book. We follow Hayes and Tali, two polar opposites, yet they complement one another like no other. Hayes is a plastic surgeon and Tali is Hayes’s new personal assistant. The chemistry and connection that these two try so hard to deny is as clear as day. The back and forth banter between them was absolutely perfect and had me actually laughing out loud at some parts. I really loved how, though they both had a jaded past with relationships and with family, they came together and made it work. I would have loved this book more if it was a dual POV, but having just Tali’s was fine. However, I really did not care for how it ended. I was expecting something grand and big but I found it to be lackluster. It didn’t fit with how 75% of the book went. Overall, I did enjoy this book and can’t wait to read more from this author.

I have to lie, because I can’t tell anyone that home, for me, is no longer a place. It’s the sound of Hayes’s laugh, and the sight of him brushing his hair out of his eyes, or reluctantly drinking a smoothie he hates solely because I made it for him. It’s the way he struggles not to smile when I imitate his accent, his singular willingness to always say the worst possible thing. Home is Hayes, and I am going to miss him every minute of the day for a long, long time.

The way Hayes Flynn changed and opened up to Tali and just was obsessed with her and worshipped the ground she walked on? It was everything..
THE BANTER AND TEASING WAS EVERYTHING 
Also I really loved the way their trust issues were portrayed and having difficulty opening up themselves for love again after they were hurt in their past relationships .. 
Tali is definitely a caretaker and the way she took care of Hayes and everyone was precious. Natalia was definitely a mirrorball character.. but I love that she finally found someone who appreciates that and takes care of her too
[I saw some reviews saying that they hated her insecurities but I just found her need for reassurance relatable considering all she’s been through and her trust issues] one of my fav songs is afterglow after all..
-The last part was a little angsty and made me cry slightly..
I NEED CHARLOTTE’s BOOK 

Things I didn’t like:
-There was just some comments that were slightly uncomfortable for me..
-I wish we got more from Hayes POV other than the epilogue (which I absolutely loved)
- The mentions of his escapades was a bit much I mean it ended early on in the book but I didn’t wanna be reminded

I think I would've possibly rated this one higher had I not read Devil and the Deep Blue Sea first because it set a high bar in for this series. So for me, I found this to be an easy and enjoyable read but at the end of the day nothing special. I never once got that feeling where I physically couldn't put it down and it's not one I'm likely to remember. Hayes and Tali definitely had a lot of banter and chemistry which are two things that will win me over every time. By far my favourite part of this story was their verbal sparring and Hayes being completely gone for her the entire time while Tali was just clueless about it HAHA. Overall, I just felt like something was missing and as far as being a hate to love (my personal weakness) this fell pretty flat. More like annoying or highly irritated to love. It's frustrating because I can't really explain one specific thing that made me feel that way but it's also the reason I never got as fully invested. 

Either way, I have a good time reading Elizabeth O'Roark's romances they feel effortless to fall into, which is why I wished that I had a stronger book chemistry with it. Oh well, it was still a good time and I look forward to reading book3 at some point.

The first couple of chapters were a little touch and go there for me for a second and I honestly wasn't sure I'd like this, but phew, it did not take long to completely change my mind.

A Deal with the Devil is a classic boss/assistant set up with a grumpy love interest. Just.. Chefs kiss.

This was a solid 4 star read and it had so many of my all-time favorite tropes. We didn't get dual POV, but it had that trope that makes single POVs absolutely worth it - iykyk.

The main characters, more specifically the fmc, were so witty and sharp. I found myself laughing out loud several times while they very brazenly insulted each other lmao.

I appreciated their background stories and the family drama subplot. It was a great addition to the romance. 

Usually it's the guy that frustrates me and ends up being an idiot, but not this time and I was pleasantly surprised lmao. I wanted to smack Tali over the head and just wanted to give Hayes a big hug.

I’m a slow burn kinda girl always, I don’t need instant love or so much spicy scenes. However if it’s a slowburn the smut must be perfect. And this book don’t had in it which is a disappointment. But I love characters and plot so I’ve enjoyed this one.

This book is exactly what I needed to get out of a reading slump.

I'd say it was definitely a slow burn enemies-to-lovers book with a rather predictable storyline, but it was just so pure and full of romance and 'he falls first' vibes that my heart just needed it! 

It follows Tali, who is recruited as a PA to fill in for her friend, and she quickly learns that despite what the tabloids say, her new boss, Hayes, isn't as unfeeling as he seems.

Totally recommend this to anyone looking for a quick read to get some much-needed romance back into your tbr.
