could have been so good. romance and lack of world building ruined it for me

The romance between the two main characters was a bit too cliche, yet there were moments in the book that got me excited. Overall it was an enjoyable read.

I liked the romance, but it was just so dark... it didn't have a shred of hope in its writing. It was like there was no other choice to these bad outcomes, like it was hopeless.

simply and cliche but entertaining

This book is everything! I love when I'm drawn to books and have no choice but to read them. The attraction I felt to this book was stronger than Natalie and Ash's Soul bond. I fragging love this book. Natalie grew on me, from a self absorbed brat to someone who would die for her love and a race of people who murdered her father in front of her. If you hated Ash at any point in this book then we simply cannot be friends. Ash is wonderful and I myself am infatuated with him, He was willing to be crucified for her and what I absolutely adored was that he was human, he still questioned his feelings about Natalie. He forgave his mother and the Sigur. He forgive Day he epitome of bitch (aka i'd like to play her role in a movie) There were times when I felt like the bond between the Nat and Ash was rushed but if they were going to go through all of this in the book then it was perfect. When he bit her I was amazed at her reaction simply because IT'S NORMAL! I love the even though she was so hopelessly in love with him the fact that he bit her still scared her BECAUSE HER FATHER WAS KILLED THAT WAY! I reallly really liked this book. i want to read more in the series. this United Sentiel States intrigue me so much and it's pretty much The Hunger Games on crack. IS IT 2013 yet?

Natalie and Ash seriously went from hating each other to all of a sudden being in love? It was cheesy and unrealistic, the whole word created was super confusing, and I just was not a fan.

More of my reviews at Secrets of Lost Words. *This might get a bit spoiler-y* I just cannot say how disappointed I was with this book. I ALMOST FREAKING DNFed IT. And it was one of my most anticipated of the year. I had push myself to get through it, and yeah.. *sigh* The very thing that bugged me was the whole "Blood Mate" thing. I don't mind soulmates stuff.. in fact I loved the Shelly Crane books.. but this one was just too much. Both Ash and Natalie were all like, I wanna touch you and kiss you but I can't and all that shit. <-- JUST HELL NO. And then later we find out about Natalie's heart transplant or something like that.. Then.. I begin to think maybe it's not real. And also, I don't find myself caring about their problems or how everyone basically wanna burn all the Darklings. I just don't care... I'm just so pissed off.. This book had so much potential.. And it's just ruined..

Find me on Booktube (Youtube): https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCd3j... Rate: 5/5 When I first came across this book - I was expecting something more along the lines of demons/devilish creatures that ate your soul as the synopsis said something along the lines of darklings. So I was in a complete surprise when these darklings came out to be vampires - maybe should have read the synopsis closers. I was absolutely amazed at this world that the author created. A post "apocalyptic" world where many were affected with a disease and the United States split off into different districts with a "president" to rule them. Perfection! I am usually very skeptical when it comes to vampire books because they tend to always be the same or just plain stupid by the ends of things. However, Elizabeth Richards did an amazing job at creating characters that I could easily fall in love with or even just get frustrated at - because trust me these characters get you riled up really quick! Between Natalie and Ash I didn't know who I wanted to yell at more! They are both such amazing characters! Natalie was a character I was not prepared for. Usually in these books I get girls who follow in their parents footsteps and tend to be a little bit of a goodie two shoes - or are even the favorite child through the book. This was not the case for Natalie. In fact she was the hated child who tended to escape her guards to just get a moments peace. Although, there were times where I felt Natalie could be a really big snob. But I blame that on her mother, who by the way hate with such a strong passion by the end of the book was hoping she would burn on a cross! I know awful thing to say but once you read this book you will understand my issues with that creature. Then of course you have Ash - a half darkling half human creature - who is stuck in a position where no one particularly likes him. He deals drugs and is living on the human side of the wall...he is bound to make enemies. I absolutely loved Ash. He is broody, dark, and drop dead sexy - which I wouldn't have any other way. I think my favorite moments with him was his teasing of Natalie and him just trying to figure out where he fits in her life. So I have to say the relationship aspect of this book definitely gets an A+ in my book. Besides character development the plot is the next best things. You have your action and your serious downtime. The plot progression was truly perfect and I wouldn't have it any other way. There were many things that were revealed that was not specified before and you definitely get a little bit of drama throughout the book as well. So my suggestion is to pick this book up!
