tiktok would either recommend me the best book to read or the worst one. I'm in the middle for this read. I devoured it in less than 24 hours because I missed reading marriage for convenience tropes. The material was there, but I agree with some. This could've been written better.

When Lily is offered a ticket out of the career and life she hates, she takes it. Even if it means signing a contract to marry the attractive but aloof Sebastian Miller for five years.

Her job is simple: play the happy house wife in person and on social media and she will get awarded a million dollars of her inheritance. That money is more than enough for her to start a life on her own and away from her controlling parents. It should be easy.

But four years in, she’s more than ready to be done with this marriage. She’s pretty sure her husband hates her, and she longs for the freedom the end of their contract will bring—a freedom that is threatened when she’s called to meet Sebastian’s father, the orchestrator of this whole sham. She worries he will try to extend their contractual marriage.

What he does is worse.

Forced to move across the country due to a promotion for Sebastian is her worst nightmare, but her only choice is to pretend to be fine.

She prepares for the last year of their marriage to be more cold indifference, but being stuck in a new city shows a sweeter side of Sebastian that Lily never thought possible. Gone is the indifferent man she knows. In his place is the kind and patient man of her dreams.

But their clock is ticking—only one year of their marriage remains. Will they find love or will contractual obligations get in the way?

Okay so.. this book was painful for a bit..

It took time for me to fully sit down and get through the little things like learning what both their thought processes were through those first years of marriage. Essentially this book was basically about lack of communication. Not even just a lack but like complete ignorance on both their parts. It would’ve been great to get to both characters truths faster and have a twist in there but it was all pretty point A to B.

I did like that she was a writer and I liked that when his assistant showed her cards he immediately said absolutely not. There’s no cheating or third annoying party. They seemed like a couple who was plausible in the end.

Good plot but characters were annoying, and had very little growth. I hated the narration and dialogue- such a bummer cause I really loved the story itself.

first book of the year! arranged marriage trope is kinda one of my guilty pleasures so i gave in to booktok once again. i liked the concept, i just wish the execution could have been better bcos it kinda ruined its potential.

This book was a bit different a forced romance but it’s 4 years into the marriage then they start falling for each other which is cute.

And I loved how they struggled so much but were willing to communicate and make things better.
