Inside you will find an assortment of wonderful things - words, pictures, advice, tidbits, morsels, shenanigans, and, in some copies, four hundred dollars cash. So you might want to buy a few. I don't have enough room on this back cover to tell you all the reasons why you should buy this book, but I can tell you this and it's a guarantee: If you buy it, you will feel better, look better, be happier, grow taller, lose weight, get a promotion at work, have shinier hair, and fall madly, deeply in love. As you probably know, this is normally where authors put nice quotes from fancy people praising their book. I'm a little uncomfortable with that. It feels like a gimmick to get people to buy it and I don't believe in cheap tricks like that. Besides, I know you're way too smart and beautiful to fall for that kind of stuff. Actually, I think you're so wonderful I thought I would use this space to praise you. Yes, that's right. You. I'm not sure what I expected, but this was my first Ellen audiobook, and I was not a fan. It read like a joke book, but I wasn't laughing. It didn't feel like standup either. I thought there would be more of a biography feel mixed with funny life moments like other comedian books I've read, but that was not the case.

The stand-up comedian, television host, best-selling author and actress candidly discusses her personal life, her professional career and describes what it was like to become a judge on American Idol. 750,000 first printing.

I only finished this book because I paid $15 for it. 

I bought this book because I like The Ellen show. I think she's a fantastic figure and I wanted to learn more about her. By finishing this book I sure learned a lot about her, especially how she thinks; because this whole book was pretty much a continuous series of thoughts by Ellen. It was her diary. 

The book was ok. If you are an Ellen fan and you want to know how she thinks, maybe this book would be ok for you. But to me, I was bored out of my mind. I wouldn't recommend it. I thought it was just a lot, a lot of blabbering put into a book. I like Ellen, but I wouldn't buy this book had I known it was going to be what it was.

This is such a fun book! I love Ellen and had to get this book. It doesn't touch much on what is going on in her life-so don't read this book with that expectation. If you decide to read this book realize you will be laughing out loud until this book is finished.

Seriously... I'm Kidding is a non-fiction book written by a stand-up comedian who now hosts a talk show, Ellen DeGeneres. In this book she talks about a lot of things, a few are pretty serious subjects actually, but of course she always ends up joking about it. It's a fun book full of Ellen's thoughts on random stuffs. And to make it easier for me to write a review for this book, I will share some of my favorites from this book :)

There are so many chapters in this book, and one of my favorite is titled CoverGirl. It talks about beauty; and that a person's beauty is not always judged solely on appearance. No one is perfect, and the flaws that we have are what makes us human - and if we are able to accept the fact that they're part of who we are, then it wouldn't be a problem at all. It also talks about age. When we're kids, we wanted to be older, but when we're older we tend to lie about our age.
"To me, beauty is about being comfortable in your own skin. It's about knowing and accepting who you are. I'm happy being who I am. I am confident, I live honestly and truthfully, and I think that's why I was chosen as the first fifty-year-old, openly gay CoverGirl. It's just a bonus that I have devastatingly blue eyes."....

I laughed, I giggled, I smiled, and i finished this book feeling happier. I love Ellen, and I'm grateful that I got to experience the joy of this book.

I have to admit that I wasn't laughing out loud after reading every single page in this book, but I was far from disappointed. Based on other reviews, I gather that many people are/were expecting this third book of Ellen's to give more information about her time on American Idol, her marriage, etc. This is more of a collection of chapters in random thoughts or beliefs of Ellen's, and I think it would make a fantastic beach read. This was a light and easy read, and I am still laughing about a few parts. I am still convinced that Ellen is the most humble and giving celebrity out there, and I loved reading this book. I wish I had opted for the audio version, however, as I think you have to be a fan of Ellen's show and her sense of humor to find some of her jokes entertaining, and I don't think some of them would have the same effect as if they were delivered through her voice. Overall this was a fun read, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a easy-to-read, light-hearted option.

Wow....am I ever glad I found this book at a charity shop and only forked out $2 opposed to the cover price of $30!! It was an extremely short, easy read. My best advice is to borrow the book from a friend or library....the cost of this book can only be classed as a "cash grab".

The book was of course funny in parts, but other parts flopped. For someone who devoted a chapter on the importance of recycling, Ellen certainly wasted a lot of paper between the children's colouring sheets, the blank pages and large font. Some chapters were only a couple of sentences long!

The redeeming factor the of the book was the way it was written. You could hear her delivering each sentence in your head clearly.

Overall, anyone who likes Ellen will probably enjoy the read. Just don't expect anything substantial and you won't be disappointed.

I could not stop laughing through this whole book. I loved it. I highly suggest this for anyone who a) loves Ellen b) needs a good laugh c) needs a decompressing book between a heavy read and getting into something involved again d) needs a quick read to keep them company on travels of any kind. I picked up this book just as a filler -- something I read in between when am in no mental state of anything serious. Or something that will make me think. Or will make me sad. So I had very little expectations going in. And the book met my expectations to the T. It wasn't terrible. But I don't think I will remember any part of it after even a month.

I have now given up on many "memoirs" which are nothing more than essays on varied topic. I have realized that they simply don't interest me. Especially humor ones. Fact that I could sit through and complete this book is in itself a surprise for me.

One thing that might have worked in favor somewhat is that I listened to this book rather than reading it. I think the experience must have been a tad better. Because ..uhmm.. Ellen. But the content just was too patchy overall. Some essays were brilliantly written. They talked about some nice little ideas. And with Ellen's easy-on-ears style of narrating, they made me laugh. Some even made me think. Her journal entries while on beach or her thoughts on having (*not?*) kids, to note a couple, are damn funny.

Others, however, - and there many to be frank - were terrible. Her haikus or bucket lists were just horrible. I don't even know why were there in the book. They weren't funny. They had no reason. They were just .. there. Wish if the chapters that weren't funny at least made me learn something about Ellen's life. Nope. Didn't do even that. Few had just 4-5 words. Not something I enjoy - sorry. Even when I have very low expectations.

All in all, this is a terrible memoir, okiesh essay collection, a breezy audiobook. You can listen through it completely over a long drive. You won't miss a thing while you place and collect your order at a drive through. Don't pause. Don't replay. Just let it play on through your drive.

Content gets 2 stars. Ellen gets another star. However, I don't think I will pick up another of her earlier books any time soon though. Or any of the essay/memoirs. I am done with this genre.
