the story of izzy and clara was intriguing, but izzy's story was boring at times due to the forced dialogue and strange acts of bullying she faced from her peers, who were boring and had little substance. the torment izzy experienced from those at her school was unrealistic and often had little to no effect on the storyline. izzy's ya high school experience did not mesh well with clara's descriptions of torture and the abuse she suffered from. the imagery of this novel was slightly overdone, dialogue and plot points were frequently lacking, and had pacing issues, with the bulk of the capitvating content being towards the end. finally, the ending of the novel was lackluster and didn't feel like an appropriate choice to end a book dealing with heavy topics, such as self-harm, death, and the cruel torture of asylum patients. 

overall, it's a typical ya book with poor writing choices.
