You and Children
The Effective Teaching series, by popular Christian education author, Lawrence O. Richards, is a practical outgrowth of his best-selling textbook Creative Bible Teaching. Here he presents the specific details of the plan he outlined earlier. The series has a threefold purpose: 1. To orient teachers and parents to distinctive aspects of the subject or age group which affect communication of biblical concepts and values. 2. To help readers evaluate their present ministry and practices to teachers and parents. 3. To give practical guidance for development of more helpful and effective behavior for teachers and parents. You and Children is the third volume in this series, following You, the Teacher and You and Youth. It centers specifically on the special problems faced by parents and teachers working with children. Elsiebeth McDaniel, an expert on beginners and primaries, did the writing, following the popular Richards style. Richards says of her, "You'll find her a blend of the theoretical and the bluntly practical. You'll find theological soundness and the first rate educational awareness of a professional." A thorough guide to teaching children, it will aid the beginning teacher and the experienced teacher as well. The ten chapter studies include "Why Teach Children?" "How Do Children Learn?" "How Will You Prepare?" and "Must You Be Creative?"
