Stuart Little is cute. But deep? Not at all. This is very much a book where everything is on the surface and little can be drawn from it in terms of meaning. Additionally, it ends remarkably abruptly. I'm not sure of the reason why this would be, but it makes the book lose it's appeal for me. I also struggle with the logic of the idea itself, but fiction does require a certain amount of suspension of disbelief. In this case, that two fully grown human parents would give birth to a mouse and no one would question how that would even be possible.

All in all, not my favorite work. I definitely remember liking it slightly more as a child, though it was never in a list of books I adored.

I don't have much to say about this one. I wanted to reach my Goodreads goal this year, and I'm only a few books behind and wanted some short reads to get me there. I reread my childhood favorite, Trumpet of the Swan, and found a lot to love in it even as an adult, so I thought I'd give this a shot.

It is not nearly as good as Trumpet of the Swan. Stuart was a bit of a jerk at the end. The ending was abrupt. That's to say nothing of the premise of a mouse being born into a human family, but we'll skip that. 

One thing I've noticed about E.B. White is that he's more of a teller than a shower. His writing is all telling me what happened instead of showing me how something happened. I just can't get myself into a mindset where I find this type of writing enjoyable anymore.
