the tropes in this book freaking served and the epilogue agh yes

- “My stomach rises and falls like an avalanche, knowing that I should take my leave but not being able to move away.”

- “He stares at me as though he can see into the darkest corners of my soul. Or maybe that’s just his darkness reaching out and trying to find the blackest parts of mine.”

- “(…) the colors creating a beautiful halo around her body as if she’s divinity in human form, brought to earth to tempt me from my violent deeds. But I already know she’s no angel.”

- “I hate her for making me feel like this; for making me covet yet another thing that my brother gets. She bewitches me, and I would rather rid her from the face of the earth than exist in a world where she tempts me but leaves me with empty arms.”

- “Because, ma petite menteuse, the thought of not kissing you makes me want to die.”

- “And the way he stares, as though he’s diving into my soul and seeing every part, makes me feel like I could ask him for the world, and he’d tear it to pieces just to fit it in my hands.”

- “But now there’s her. And everything else pales in comparison. There is nothing I wouldn’t do to keep her by my side. She is everything. And if she’s hurting, I will torture the people who caused it until they beg me to let them die.”

- “You’ve made me insane. I can’t eat, I can’t sleep, I can’t fucking breathe without thinking of you.”

- “The truth is, I am yours. Wholly. Inexplicably. Painfully. Unconditionally. And if you need to sacrifice my soul so you’re able to live with yours, then do it.”

- “The problem is, Sara, there is no erasing you. And now, you’re part of me. One that I can’t snuff out, no matter how much I may try. And I’m part of you too. Even if you hate that it’s so. I am nothing, if I’m not yours. So do it. Kill me, Sara. Put me out of this constant purgatory of needing you without having you. I will die happily if it’s what will bring you peace”

- “I decided long before ending up here that if she wished for me to die, I would lie down at her feet. I have no interest in fighting her. No interest in living if she doesn’t wish for me to be.”

- “Because my heart belongs to the scarred prince. The rebels’ savior. The crowned king of Gloria Terra. And he made me queen of the ashes.”
