something close to magic had no business being this fluffy and cute and heartwarming fantasy. reminded me so so so much of my comfort book, foolish hearts by the same author <3

where do i begin? the fairytale-like setting, combined with unique characters made the read so pleasurable. each of the characters, aurelie, hapless, iliana, quad, they are so close to my heart now. 

prince hapless was the one i loved the most. such a goofy, sunshine baby? i hated how the people treated him. dim-witted? he certainly wasn't! we need more mmcs like him 🫶🏽

While this is a cozy, fun, self-contained little fantasy, it felt lacking in world building. The characters were great, and almost meta in a sense? There's a lot of sarcasm and self awareness which was fun. It was cute, but a little bit slow.
