Enchantress

James Maxwell — 2014
The first book in the epic Evermen Saga. Ella and her brother, Miro, are orphans, their parents killed long ago in the ongoing struggle against the mad Emperor. From the day Ella witnesses an enchanter using his talents to save Miro from drowning, she knows what she wants to be. But the elite Academy of Enchanters expects tuition fees and knowledge. Determined, Ella sells flowers and studies every book she can. Meanwhile, Miro dreams of becoming one of the world's finest swordsmen, wielding his nation's powerful enchanted weapons in defense of his homeland. A dark force rises in the east, conquering all in its path, and Miro leaves for the front. When the void Miro left is filled by Killian, a charming stranger from another land, Ella finds herself in love. But Killian has a secret, and Ella's actions will determine the fate of her brother, her homeland, and the world.

I loved this book, being honest about the storyline, it could've been more well written as a book itself but the plot and characters were all very well developed throughout the series! Ella is very young and very drawn to her studies in a almost-hermione-like way to me this is fascinating because they are so alike yet so different. I feel like this story itself is very well planned out--- the writing could've been much stronger! I feel like more development on Killian would've made my dreams on this book come true. This is a comfort series to me, not for the intricate writing and all but because these characters make me feel very safe and give me inspiration and a feeling of joy, I would recommend this book to anyone.

This book captured my heart, and later the series stole my soul. I, to this day, read this book/series annually. The writing is beautiful and the story is incredible. One of the most fantastic high fantasy stories I have ever had the pleasure of reading. CANNOT - CANNOT recommend it enough.

World building is brilliant, with an interesting magic system where characters still have faults and don’t have a god-complex. Looks at human flaws and emotions. Betrayal and love. Military strategy. It has everything.

A MUST READ!!
