He disliked nearly all women, and especially the young and pretty ones. It was always the women, and above all the young ones, who were the most bigoted adherents of the Party, the swallowers of slogans, the amateur spies and nosers-out of unorthodoxy. The book is dystopian so after a level it just feels like the rules are for the sake of it and the obession over just power is not really practical; I expected abit more depth to the mindset behind this government. I also wished the main character was shown abit more smarter if he is tackling with such a government; the 'rebelion' angle was very weak. Its hard to relate and understand the protagonist when your ideas are decent but your execution is zero. However, I do appreciate the fact a good chunk of these rules do last in today's time when it comes to an authoritative regime which we witness in North Korea for instance. 

Its a good read but nothing major going on; I shall give George Orwell his flowers for popularising this genre but thats that.

"We are living it!! It's not a simple book!!". Maybe it's true, but that's not the important thing. Orwell was not a visionary because he predicted the future, but because he perfectly photographed human nature, which had always been unchanged.

This book is a must-read, with ideas that remain relevant after more than 70 years of publication! It feels like any authoritarian government from around the world. It’s like the manual used in many countries. It just needs obedient people following ideas without challenging them, and just entertained, trying to survive by finding food and water, or just fighting to survive.

Obra maestra. El futuro distópico de 1984 que plantea Orwell en 1949 lamentablemente no dista de la realidad que vivimos hoy. Un libro lleno de tensión y violencia que presenta una realidad donde el pueblo es controlado y manipulado desde que nace gracias a la tecnología y la información falsa, analizando el comportamiento del pueblo y el gobierno totalitario, la naturaleza humana y las dinámicas de poder.

It was interesting and was the first book I read this year and also in a while. Not really my cup of tea but it was a good read to begin my reading journey.

After a lifetime of hearing references from this book, I finally got round to reading it. I believe everyone should read this book, and any country that tries to ban or restrict it 

I enjoyed the pacing and the world building, and Orwell does a great job at depicting the psychology of those under authoritarian rule, along with dealing with greater themes such as class. 

Although I do think this is rightfully named a classic, I rated it 4 as I found aspects a bit tedious, such as the drawn-out sections on Newspeak, and the last section of the book was a bit underwhelming for me. But overall, a must-read.

My favorite book I’ve read recently. Didn’t have any problems with it other than a little bit of disorientation during parts towards the end, but I feel as though it’s purposefully reflective of Winston’s state so I’d say it did its job. I am not of the common opinion that it is an overrated book, I find it to be thought provoking and to have remarkably horrifying modern real-world parallels that show how brilliant Orwell was with his foresight

I read George Orwell's Nineteen eighty four, a dystopian fiction. It was published in 1949. It's set in the future year 1984, when the civilization has been damaged by war, conflict and revolution. ⠀ ⠀ This book illustrates totalitarianism, mass surveillance of cities. I was actually traumatized, when I started the second part. The first part just moves with the protagonist who enjoys his love life amidst all the political dilemmas. ⠀ ⠀ The second part! Oh my goodness! It's so hard to actually get into it. But when I finished it, it hit me hard; it was really depressing and terrifying. I mean how this man actually wrote a book like this. How he imagined a government that controls the people's mind and information?⠀ ⠀ I read somewhere that this is George Orwell's last book and he was in an urge to finish this one. Though it was criticised when first published, now it is celebrated as his masterpiece. ⠀ ⠀ I strongly recommend this book to all who love politics.
