We Can Never Leave This Place

Ok while I am one of the biggest LaRocca fans out there, I think this one flew over my head. I'm a bit too confused to criticise anything at the moment and I've missed the whole point so there's not much to say. I'll have to give it a reread and really sit down with it but the whole plot of insects infesting their home kind of makes me think it's symbolic of the stages of decomposition of a body. Maybe that was obvious but I'm literally coming to that realisation as I'm writing this. Rake and the other insects are slowly eating Mara's dad and taking him away from her. The whole thing where her dad was her brother was a bit of a mind fuck I don't think i understood that properly (at least I hope I understood that wrong because eww). Anyway that's the opinion. I almost feel bad for the rating I gave it, again because this author typically has such a deep and layered writing style and I'm too stupid to understand it properly.
