I really wanted to like this book. I mean it's about mermaids so how bad can it be? 

Well I will say it is mediocre. The story idea was good, although there was a lot of unnecessary information, for example I didn't need 1/4 of the book to get that Gabe and Kate where friends since childhood and that Kate was a bookish loner.
I would have loved to see Kate interact more with Maya or anyone else, instead it was just a lot of background boring information. It did start to get good about half way through after people started getting married, but then it got boring while Kate had to "wait" for Gabe. That part really annoyed me. Also all the information about her aunt and uncle completely unnecessary. and the good part, when Kate is kidnapped and help captive was basically glossed over.

The bare bones of the book and a lot of the dialogue is good, but most of the characters require more flushing out and the story needs more excitement. Kate needs more to her. I love that she is smart and driven and works hard to get through school but balance is key and really it's pretty much her rushing through her education so that she can be acceptable to marry Gabe which doesn't exactly sit well with me.

The author does an in depth job at creating this world. It is one if the best laid out of the mermaid books I've read. From the government to keeping the secret to every day life. Its worth the read just to discover her world.

That being said the first 65% of the book is telling. It is a weird you need to know this information for the plot so here it is layout. My intrigue into the world definitely kept my interest through this section which is why I gave it 4 stars, but it was had to get sucked into the book and the characters stories because of it.

The WRITING and the PROSE in this book are to die for. Errin knows how to use words to manipulate a readers emotions in the best way. A stunning and beautiful story of love and devotion. I love the portrayal of Mermaids/Sirens in this series, it's a darker take than our disney friends, but not so Dark that it takes away from the beauty that is the romance itself. It ends in a satisfying way but invites a reader to be excited for the rest of the series. Compelling and dynamic characters all around, not a single one of whom I did not feel emotionally attached to by the end of the story. A true work of Art!

           Okay, first of all, I was given this book by the author for a book tour in exchange for an honest review. Honestly the book started out rather slowly for me and took me almost two months to read. It wasn't until part two that I started getting captivated with the story but that may be because Kate became more relatable then and closer to my age.

I loved the whole aspect of the book when it comes to the mermaids (or sirens as Gabe likes to say) and their abilities. The part where they can help humans hold their breath longer did confuse me. Although I must admit that getting "married" and losing your virginity when you're ovulating all based on your pulse does kind of terrify me, I did appreciate the fact that they "mate" for life. 

The ending was different than I'm used to and I happened to really love it. I am very curious on how the second book will go... Will it be set around Carmen and her past? Or will it be set around Kate and Gabe's child?
