I love this book, I’m not even religious but I find the church bits fit into the story in a way thats not unnatural and the story is just so fluffy. Its relaxing I’ve reread it like 8 times

I did like this story, as I was looking for some light reading to take my mind off of things. I decided since this was sitting on my bookshelf for years, to dust it off and give it a go. I knew going into it that it was in the Christian chick-lit genre, and I was a little scared having had some bad experiences in the past with others in this genre. I was pleasantly surprised when I found myself engaged in the story and wanted to see how it would play out. 

Keeping a few things in mind helped me to see this book for what it was:


1) Religion: it IS a Christian chick-lit book, so you will have a lot of Bible classes, Bible versus and discussions about faith sprinkled throughout this book. If that bothers you, then you may want to skip it. One thing I found unbelievable is that everyone in the story goes to the same church. And if they don't? Then they are recruited and start going on a regular basis. There were mentions of "I don't like this person" or "they can't date" because of religion - that's a little shaky for me as I'm a lot more open than that. Respect that person's POV and moving on...

2) Maturity level: the author was in her early 20's when she wrote this. She still lived at home and you can tell she did not have much life experience from the way the book reads. Lauren is in her early 20's and reacts to life events like a child. It is not an endearing quality, even though the author makes everyone around her love her for it. If I read this in my early 20's then I would have a different review. Given I'm reading it in my 30's when I'm about to have a daughter, I'm looking at it from an angle in which I can see so much immaturity in the main character it almost hurts. I'm hoping to see some character growth in the next 2 books because those are sitting on my shelf as well!

3) Marriage: Is this a religious thing? Every character that starts dating is getting engaged on what feels like the very next page! Definitely not the reality of the world I grew up in so I find this one hard to swallow. But it's fiction after all. 

Keep those things in mind and perspective and it actually is a cute "beach read."
