I loved this tale. Set in a gothic Victorian setting, this is “Dark” 

 where murkier things linger underneath the veneer of opulence.

Despite it’s gruesome tendencies, the book has so much heart. Essie Fox beautifully crafts up a story about found family and unconditional love. I loved the unconventional characters, Fox has a deep understanding of dynamic characterisation which made each character wholly unique, memorable, and with purpose.

This is a wonderful book to curl up to in the dead of winter or a cooler autumn. I’ll probably read this again myself later in the year.
