The plot was interesting enough. In a post apocalyptic world, procreation is fairly important factor, or so I've always believed. But of course, I imagined the procreation would be voluntary, but, whatever your cup of tea.

Characters: 4/5
Eve: I don't know. She was Alright. At times, I got really frustrated with her. For the first half of the book, though, i could understand her decisions. But then when she went did that message thing, it was just so... frustrating. Erg.
Caleb: I don't know about him either. He's definitely not my favorite book boy, and I won't be putting him on my 'My Fictional Boyfriends' list, but there have been worse book boys. Give two secs and I'll think of a couple. I just really didn't feel one way or the other about him.
Arden: Ok, in all honestly, I liked her better than the main character. Not that that's atypical of me, but... I really liked Arden.
Silas: So cute!
Lief: Okay, back in the day where the ONLY fictional character named Lief was from Deltora Quest, the name was cool. Then I read the Poison Study series, where the MC has a brother named Lief. I read a blog post Existence by Abbi Glines, and apparently that book has a Lief too. And now HERE? I'm sorry, but this is just getting ridiculous. 
Anyway, for the actual character breakdown: I really want to learn more about this character. Out of all the characters we met in this book, Lief seemed to have the most interesting past. He did make a couple choices and actions within the book that I don't quite approve, but I'd like to know the emotions he was feeling behind those decisions.

Okay, so, the MC, Eve, was taught that Men and Boys are Evil and Dangerous, and only want women for their bodies. predictably, she falls in love with PRACTICALLY THE FIRST BOY SHE EVER SEES. What does this tell you about her? Don't get me wrong, it was enjoyable and cute, just slightly hypocritical.

The long and straight of it: I enjoyed this book, but it didn't really phase me. I will read the rest of the series though, and have books two and three on hold at the library.

After read this book a couple moths ago, I thought this book contained an interesting plot line,and quirky characters that I was able to care about. This being one of the first dystopian novels I'd read since discovering hunger games I found this story innovative and just a fun read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait to read Once!

I've been looking forward to getting my hands on Anna Carey's new YA dystopian, Eve, novel for months. Probably since I first saw it on Goodreads at the start of the year. Since my experience with The Hunger Games last year, I've been craving dystopian fiction. The teaser for Eve got me excited and I bought it as soon as it came out.

Unfortunately, I finished the book a little disappointed. I'm not ready to say I didn't like it, or that it was bad - but for a first novel in a trilogy, it was quite weak. I wanted more from it: more history, more explanation, more characterisation.

To begin with, Eve is a fickle heroine. Coming from an all girls school, who secretly spend twelve years preparing them to become breeding machines (more on that later) while simultaneously teaching them to hate men, she should want to be more self-sufficient and independent. Eve is afraid of men from the get go, but a few friendly smiles and a moment of solitude, changes her mind. Her naivety and fears are justified in a world where she is being hunted and her friends are being murdered, but she's just so inconsistent!

The most interesting characters are the ones that are barely touched on while the ones we focus on - Eve, Lief and Caleb - are quite two dimensional. I want to know more about Arden, about Pip and Ruby, and Margaret and Otis. Who is this politician become King who is the shady antagonist? Tell me more about this plague - and vaccine - that culled the population.

I found a lot of things confusing - something a second read might help. The code, the Trail, Califia and the Schools are all vague concepts that, at this point, fail to create a realistic backdrop for narrative. Why educate these girls - and so thoroughly - for twelve years and waste so many precious breeding years? They may want to encourage voluntary breeding but aren't they making promises they can't keep by talking about the trades Graduates will learn?
Haunting as the breeding factories are, they seem a poorly thought out.

Of course, Eve has an interesting idea. The plague is a great way to explain away a dwindling dystopian society, and the idea of young girl being used as sows is terrifying. I just need more - I need to understand the how and why of New America's history. I need to hope that further books in the trilogy will explain things further.

Judging by the cover: I'm happy to admit that it was the cover of Eve that caught my attention. I love the blues and greens of the background; they create a striking contrast again the rich reds and browns of the girl.

I didn't really picture Caleb with dreadlocks, even though I know he had them, but if I had to picture him as he is in the book, this would be it. Minus the smoking. And with green eyes.

So I really, really enjoyed this book! I had anticipated a slow read, but there was a lot more action than I thought, which was great. The way the characters were written and described was very good, I felt like I got to know all of them, even those who were only with us for a short while. Eve was, you know, definitely like a girl who had never seen a man in her entire life and she seemed a lot younger than 18, which makes sense. Arden was cool and a bit of a BAMF. Caleb was cute.
I look forward to reading Once very soon!

It’s been 7 years since I put this book in my want to read list, I really wanted to like it, but I didn’t. 

I found the main character too annoying, dependent and boring - I also find the others very plain. Half of the time of me listening to the audiobook was me making snarky comments to the narrator, it was fun, but not fun enough to continue for the rest of the series

After realizing that I somehow managed never to actually write a review for Eve, I rushed to borrow a copy from the library. Having the sequel, Once, in front of me reminded me that I had a blurry remembrance of events past. I think it's important to let you know that, as a re-read, I had certain biases already. Still, I made sure to clear my mind and just sit down to enjoy a good story. It was time to get lost in a book.

My first impression of the book was, once again, really great. I found myself trapped inside Eve's world. A world of oppression. A stifling world, that is built on a basis of lies and deceit. Even before I reached the climax that I knew was coming, I had already fallen for the world that Anna Carey built for her readers. It's hard not to forgive Eve for the way she acts when you see how she was raised. Eve's society brainwashes women into mindless drones. It's terrifying and fascinating all at the same time.

That being said, I was able to feel for Eve a lot more this read through. It's true that she can be selfish, quite often in fact. Remembering her background helped me step past that and enjoy the rest of the story. It's Caleb who really made me fall in love though. Here is a boy that, despite everything else in his world, wants to help a stranger. I'll admit I swooned a bit. After all, who wouldn't fall in love with a guy who is willing to put his life on the line for you? His story, and the stories of the boys he protects, are what really kept me reading on.

The ending broke my heart in two, even though I knew it was coming. If you haven't had a chance to read Eve yet, you should know that there is a heart wrenching cliffhanger. It will make you come back. I promise. So, at the end of the day I actually liked Eve a lot more this time around! Enough to warrant it a whole extra star. Fans of dystopian fiction will fall in love with Anna Carey's new world, and the heart of the story will keep you coming back for more.

idea could’ve gone somewhere but it really just went ON AND ON i just wanted it to end😭

i absolutely love dystopian books when they’re DONE WELL ... this is a disgrace to YA dystopia . I mean, they can either go really good or really bad , there’s usually no in between. Books like Eve and Matched just don’t cut it for me
