This was a solid 3 stars for me.
When I started this, I was very excited to read it because I really liked the first book -- However, when I actually did get into this one -even just a couple of chapters- I could tell that it was not quite what I was looking for as a sequel. One thing I did enjoy was the underlying story of the sorcerer and alchemist and Jules seeking to find out what happened between them in their past lives. I also liked the twist at the end and the fruition of their story. I thought that part was beautiful, and though somewhat expected, I enjoyed the ending.

Part of what I loved in the first book were the characters at Everless and this book did not include many of the ones I truly enjoyed, or if they were there it was only in a very small part, and that made me sad. 

The biggest thing that I really didn't like in this was the "party" scene. It was way too "contemporary fiction" in its feel, and just did not go with the flow of this medieval fantasy style story at all. It was extremely cliche, and I could not stand the whole "make-over and go to a party" scene. That whole scene took this book from being a quirky and unique fantasy story to being just like almost every other YA book.

Overall, I think it is worth reading in order to finish out the duology, but I was very disappointed in how cliche it became for a large part of this book.

I finished this last night before I went to bed. A pretty satisfying ending, but didn’t pack the same punch Everless did for me. Another book full of beautiful prose. That last line - gorgeous. I think I wanted just...a little more from the story, but I still enjoyed it.

I have to admit, the first quarter of this book, possibly the first half, had me nervous. I felt like the plot kept circling around. Perhaps it was intentional, seeing how time mimics the same pattern. Even so, it felt somewhat redundant in nature. I thought  Evermore had a case of second-book syndrome. The further I went on, however, I found that my worries were ill-informed. This book was simply beautiful.

  I’ve had eleven chances to defeat the Sorceress, and failed every time. That as far as we know, this is the Alchemist’s final chance.

This book, actually included everything that I had hoped for. The budding romance at the end of Everless never took front and center. The lore of the fox and the snake, the Sorceress and Alchemist are basically the only focus in this book. Their story is fully dissected throughout the plot, answering any questions that Everless may have created, as in, why the fox and the snake? 

  ”I’ve always thought that maybe if we know the past, we can change the future. But you, Jules, are in a unique position to do exactly that.”

There are several themes throughout this plot, but the main one is pure friendship. I say pure friendship because everything about this series reflects what unadulterated friendship looks like. It is definitely heart-breaking. But what isn’t heartbreaking about honesty, truth, and putting another before oneself? There will be sacrifice. 

  Too late, the Sorceress realized that the Alchemist had indeed tricked her--he had stolen her heart.

I feel like the depths of this book are endless. It offers so much for the reader to ponder. It is so much so, that I fear some people may miss it’s true meaning at heart. I advise to read this book slowly, and let it sink in, especially the end! Of course, this book may not suit everyone, but it’s definitely worth reading!

After all of that, I believe the ending could have had more, and didn’t need to end where it did. But, I felt that it ended in a way that best suited its purpose...as vague as that sounds. Without wanting to give anything away, I will say that I wish the ending had been drawn out a bit more, and had, maybe, some more explanation in general. It is for this reason alone that I’m giving Evermore four stars, instead of five. But don’t let that discourage you--this duology is truly one of the best I’ve read!

Violence: Moderate, as topics like death arise.

I was already quite disappointed while I read the first book, and this one didn't make it better. It was quite basic fantasy, with basic love story and evident ending. Luckily the writing is fluide and enjoyable.

I will admit I did not love this book as much as the previous book in this series. I thought the the cast of characters shrunk so dramatically and I really did miss alot of them. I still think the world building and the way it was crafted was is still well done. I think the myth elements were not as strong and the made the book less enjoyable and made it harder to read. But overall, the book was a intreating conclusion and I am excited to see what this author writes next!

This one was better!! I think! I liked some elements of the first one better, but the characters are a lot more developed and interesting in this one. Regardless, great sequel! Big fan of this world, I love the politics in it and the plot twists.

I did not, however, like the romance. I know I said they were my ship in the first book and I’m glad it happened, but did they really have to pine after each other for SO LONG? A little annoying, but maybe that’s just me. I have very little patience for that oops

I struggled with this book a bit. I always have a hard time when books end so abruptly with 10 pages left to go. I wish there could have been more of Jules and Ina and even Jules and Caro growing up. Elias was refreshing.

The journey in this book was fantastic and not what I was expecting the book to go. Throughout the book I was trying to guess how it was going to end or who had to die, either I'm terrible at figuring out plots & endings or the book was that good. 

I recommend this for those that love fantasy but want a quick read. I physically read this in 3 days as it was just that good.

4 Solid Stars

First and foremost, I feel like we need to discuss this cover. Which once again I am blown away by. They couldn’t have done a more fantastic job on it.

Sara Holland wastes no time to immediately jump back into action. Evermore picks up exactly where Everless left off and I am so glad it did. The way Everless ended, an immediate continuation was necessary. Jules is on the run and must figure out a way to destroy Caro once and for all before Caro destroys Jules and everything she loves.

While Jules is not my favorite character, she didn’t exactly make a lot of smart choices. But Liam!!  INSERT A BUNCH OF HEART EMOJIS HERE! I mean I really just loved Liam. He was brilliant and so helpful and heroic, more so than our main character here. Truly the star of the series if you ask me. But not the point. Liam and Jules do develop their relationship into a romance and it did have its sweet moments.

The plot was slow at parts and the flashbacks weren’t all necessary but overall I enjoyed them. It does tell a good story and I think at the end of the day that is all that matters. Going along for the adventure to discover Caro's weakness and solving the mystery was a fun ride and seeing it all first hand allowed me as a reader to fully experience the magic.  The ending was perfect and I was pretty much blown away.

Everless is an epic conclusion, to a great duo. I highly suggest you check it out!

Is this a joke ?

Honestly, first book was quite boring but it still has good things.
Book two ahahahah, I had to do my "fast read" method to go through it.

The plot is messy, action is almost not here, the ending is ahahaha, the love story too predictable, the main character annoying, the world not exploited enough.

A NO for me.
But if you like YA fantasy, maybe it will be your cup of tea!

It's no secret that Everless was one of my favorite 2018 releases and shouldn't be a surprise that I was prepared to perform dark magic to get my hands on Evermore. Luckily, HarperTeen saved us all from that catastrophe and provided me with an advanced reading copy.

Evermore begins with Jules on the run from Caro, still reeling from what she has learned about herself and grappling with her new reality. Jules struggles to choose her next path - flee or fight for the final life she has? Much of this book follows Jules on the run while she searches her past for any way to defeat the sorceress.

And of course there is Liam, our dark, dashingly intelligent antihero. I wont lie … Liam Gerling is one of the sole reasons I am here. His character was my favorite from the first book and continues to hold that title through Evermore. Liam enters the book in total Liam style and is by Jules' side for much of the book, to share what he has learned of the Alchemist's life and as a steady companion through all of Jules' searching. And maybe a little something more?

Evermore had has plenty of action, the pacing was great, the character arcs were well done and I got the romance I had been pining after. We learn quite a bit about Jules' and Caro's pasts, as well as what fueled the divide between them. Friendship was a large undertone to this story and I was really feeling the emotions near the end! Jules knows Caro is seeking her every weakness, most of all her friends - but its the help of others Jules must be willing to rely upon.

While I had hoped it would be as sweeping and mysterious as Everless, Evermore is certainly a worthy sequel and will give you all the answers you seek!

I will absolutely be reading more from Sara Holland.

Since this is a sequel, I won’t get to detailed so as to avoid spoilers.

After reading the first book, Everless, I was pleasantly surprised because it wasn’t necessarily what I had originally expected and, going into Evermore, I was expecting much of the same.

Something that I appreciated about Evermore was that Sara Holland was able to give another level to the story with providing glimpses into the history of the Sorceress and the Alchemist. There were a fair number of times that this aspect got a bit muddy for me and I felt it could have been written a bit clearer but the idea was interesting and it did succeed in having me (as the reader) feel as confused as Jules in those moments. Whether it was on purpose or not.

I did like that, as a sequel, it still included a lot of learning for Jules. It was not as though she learned everything somewhere between books 1 and 2. Sometimes it did get a bit frustrating but we were given enough growth to balance out some of the more annoying parts about Jules’ character. I also wish that she had more opportunities to grow through what she did in the present as opposed to having to piece together the past.

The relationship between Caro and Jules is definitely a complex one. They have centuries of history together! This is a part of the book that I was not expecting to be such a large aspect of the plot but I did enjoy it because it gave more depth to the story over all. As for Jules’ love life… there is far to much for me to say about it in a written review. Long story short, I could have done without it as it was written.

In the end, the conclusion was a unique one that I appreciated but again wish was written a little more clearly. 

This duology was a fun, quick read and an interesting story about reincarnation, time, magic, relationships and currency. I will admit though that I did enjoy Everless more than Evermore… ironically enough.

I really hoped to love this one as much as I loved Everless. Unfortunately, I couldn’t bring myself to care about the plot or the characters anymore, it felt rushed and there were moments when it didn’t make much sense. I enjoyed the ending, but it wasn’t exactly what I expected. I wished to see more of the world, the time currency, to be on the edge of my seat, but the entire book felt flat for me. I was still happy to continue reading the story, as I fell in love with Everless.

I enjoyed this more as I got into it but it still didn't quite strike me as much as the first book. I liked Jules and Liam, though I would have liked more from the latter. I also wished we could have spent more time with Ina, this felt a little rushed. But having said that I was happy with the wrap up.
