The chapters are fairly episodic, about different aspects of her time in Manhattan. There are chapters in the dorm, chapters exploring the city, chapters getting lost, and chapters about dancing.

It's a fairly quiet novel — a coming of age over the course of a summer. Tilly does a lot growing as a person and learns to trust herself as a dancer again.
