Existence

Existence

Abbi Glines2012
Seventeen year old Pagan Moore can see souls, so when she spots one lounging on a picnic table on the first day of school, she knows he is dead. Then he does something none of the others have ever done before, he speaks. Pagan is fascinated by the soul. What she doesn't realize is that her appointed time to die is drawing near and the soul she is falling in love with is not a soul at all. He is Death and he's about to break all the rules.

I wasn't too sure about this book when I first started it. The story was kind of slow going and the dialogue seemed childish. But, once it got to going, I couldn't put it down. I really wanted to know more about Dank. I am totally curious about Lief and really felt for him. I want to know exactly what Pagan's story is and why she can see ghosts. Obviously, the author left some unanswered questions out there (especially the one that goes with the last sentence of the book!) but at least I know there's two more books out there to give me answers. So, yeah, once I got warmed up to it, I really liked this book.

Pagan can see souls and one day one talks to her and everything changes. It was an ok novel but I didn't like how Pagan was using Leif despite the fact that she knew she was in love with the other guy. I hated how she would get mad at Leif due to her other issues and would basically treat him like crap. I personally didn't like the romance from Pagan's point of view I feel like I would have enjoyed this story if it were from Death's point of view. Everything in this book felt force but you get what you payed for I guess.

Kind of really cheesy/gooey. As usual she falls in love with a guy she doesn't even know while dating the good guy (view spoiler)[ who as usual, apparently isn't a good guy (hide spoiler)] my biggest issue.... his name is Dank. why in the world would you name a characted being portrayed as beautifully skulpted Dank?!? of all names? the ending was definitely anticlimactic, and the whole thing was definitely cliche and seemed very.... Twilight.. but i didn't completely hate it, i guess. I'm going to read the second book to find out what's going on with that pathetic attempt at a "plot twist" at the end. unrelated to the storyline itself: I read half the book and then listened to the second half as an audiobook. i'm kind of confused as to why the reader gave Dank an English accent. didn't it say he was supposedly from Alabama??

I really enjoyed this book. I have a really bizarre sense of déjà vu with this book. If feels like I read this plot, story, characters in some other series. It is very similar to some other series that I have read. The difference thus far is that I like this one better. I’ve read the first two books in this series. The story is about death, heaven, hell, good and evil etc. I like most of the characters. Pagan is an average likable character to me. She is strong-willed and both independent and weak at times, just like many real people. Her actions are a bit immature at times, but she is a teenage girl. Dank is also a likable character. He is Death. I hate the name Dank, even if it is short for Dankmar, it just reminds me of the definition of dank and its distracting. He too seems to be a believable character, his actions are very immature at times and you would think that wouldn’t be the case since he has always been death and is immortal. Leif too is an interesting character. He is likable at time and unlikable at other times but he is a good character. The other supporting characters are just that and are average. It is easy to foresee the upcoming events in some parts of the book but I didn’t feel like it detracted from the story. Overall I really enjoyed the book and the characters.

This book was going fantastically for the first half of the book, and then.... I started hating it. I honestly thought this book would be different from other paranormal books, but unfortunately, I was wrong. Let me just say though, I really enjoyed the first half of the book. I actually liked Pagan and Dank (ugh, I really don't like that name) a bit. Leif was a nice character. And then, sadly, things started to fall downhill, for me at least. Pagan becomes so consumed with her lust love for Dank that she doesn't want to freaking live without him anymore! She has to be sent to a mental health care center for crying out loud. She keeps saying how she can't live without his existence in her life or something like that. She sounded terribly obsessed and all around acted ridiculous. I thought it was unbelievably selfish how she stays with Leif even though she doesn't even love him, and only used him as comfort. Plus, Pagan lost any respect I had for her when she went and kissed Dank when she was still with Leif. In my book, that is just not okay, even if you think the guy's a total hottie. I wanted to grab her and throttle her for being so utterly selfish. For the record, if Dank is Death, how on earth does he have time to hang around in a high school and stay with Pagan at nights?? Do people just stop dying then or something? This was bothering me a lot while I was reading. I'm sure people aren't dying every second (although I have no expertise on this) but I'm pretty sure Death would NOT be able to stay in school for about 6 hours and not have to leave to collect souls and whatnot. Wow, okay, after writing/typing all this, I changed my mind. I'm not giving it 3 stars anymore. The second half of the book completely ruined it for me. However, I still am going to read the next book (view spoiler)[just to see what exactly Leif is. (hide spoiler)]

It was easy to read and I loved it. Although Pagan gets on my nerves sometimes because she's super dramatic, nevertheless I enjoyed it. I will start the second book now. I hope it gets better!
