this was really great, the world was so immersive and the characters felt like real people we as the reader are only seeing a glimpse of. the story was engaging and I was hooked the whole time. for me it really was the world building though, like pirates are a very familiar concept, but it was all the little details, like the idea of gem sages and dredgers, as well as the islands themselves. I thought the islands may blur together but each had a very distinct environment and felt different. i also enjoyed the elements of romance that were there but not too heavy, the focus was not on the romance, mostly the world. I suspect that will change in the sequel though. I really liked this!

This was, unexpectedly, a 5 ⭐️ read for me! I really wasn’t sure what I was wading into with this one, other than the general theme of “pirates,” but my god this was fantastic! I LOVED Young’s writing, all of the characters felt so real and dynamic, and the plot moved along at a great pace. I also wasn’t expecting an incredible slow-burn romance??? There were so many elements in this book that were similar-ish to Six of Crows — so I’d recommend it to anyone that enjoyed that series!

This wasn't a bad book, but not for me. I enjoyed some parts, but honestly I am not a big fan of sea adventure. Also, this should be just one book, not 2. The first one ends on a big big big clifhanger.

Fable has been on my TBR for what feels like forever. Now knowing that Namesake is out next month, I jumped on the opportunity to read Fable (which I did in a matter of hours). This is an incredibly fast-paced read set on the high seas, filled with mystery, treasure, and pirates.

Fable is a story about a young woman who was abandoned by her father to a small island after her father's ship sank in a storm. After four years of fending for herself, Fable schemes a plan to escape the island on a trading ship. The ship's captain West, chooses to help Fable, but not all is as it seems. Fable now journeys to find her father and take what is rightfully hers, while integrating herself with a new crew.

This read is incredibly fast. In just a few hours I devoured this first Fable novel. Adrienne Young's writing is incredibly easy to follow and super easy to binge without a lot of re-reading. There is not a lot of world-building but that didn't seem to bother me much due to the minimalist setting of "ocean" that we get for most of the book.

Although it is fast-paced, I think a reason for this is because the plot is simply straightforward and pretty basic. Not that I did not enjoy this, because I did, but there is not much happening deeper. It came off as predictable. The story is more centered around Fable and her development rather than an intricate plot full of twists. Furthermore, a lot of plot points were introduced and kinda thrown away. Maybe this will be explored further in Namesake (because some were incredibly cool) but it was frustrating to be excited for a plot point to be reintroduced and it amounted to nothing.

Now, for the characters, I really liked Fable and her growth. I love who she is and I instantly fell in love with another badass female lead who knows what she wants and won't let anybody get in the way. That being said, I felt like her crewmates were pretty one-dimensional. A lot of these relationships were not explored that deeply, especially the romance plot.

I enjoyed West and Fable, but this had the potential to be great, but it honestly fell flat. It went from zero to 100 with no real context. I think if their initial relationship was explored further before the romance took off it would have been better. Ultimately, the romance felt a bit rushed.

Overall, I enjoyed this read. it was fast and fun, and was nice to escape into something that isn't too deep or complex. It is a nice pallet cleanser or a book to read to get over a book hangover! I am excited for Namesake especially due to that incredible cliffhanger at the end of Fable (eeeeek). I will definitely pick up a copy when it is released next month!

This story is so good! I haven’t read a book this fast in so long. I couldn’t tear my eyes away or turn the pages fast enough. I am chomping at the bit to read the sequel. Highly recommend!!!

I've always loved books with sea travel, pirates (kinda) and boat lingo that I barely understand. This book was no different and I quite enjoyed. I expected maybe a little more adventure and a more complex plot but still a pretty good read, not to mention I'm in love with Adrienne Young 's writing and will read anything she writes

Slow to start, I felt like Fable tried to be many things in one, and took way too long to get to the heart of the story. Although the end of the story picked up with plot and tenderness, the rest felt like a story that just didn't move with the speed and excitement that I thought it would.

Fable is a strong, likeable female main who proves her worth, and on that note, I liked her and West separately. The book clearly took the direction of making Fable and West be in love, but their dynamic worked better as a pining, slight not friends-to-friends-to-lovers relationship. If the book was going to end on a cliffhanger to become a series, then I think it would have been better to really play into their strained relationship and later have them come to terms with feelings in the second book (or any future ones). It didn't work well for me, and I felt like the romance was underwhelming and sudden when it happened.

I also didn't really particularly care about any of the Marigold's crew, and again, Fable and West's relationship was mostly just West keeping her at arms length and then suddenly showing feelings. It made it difficult to like anybody enough to care about their wellbeing—I cared more about Saint than I did some of the crew (whose names I can't even remember...)

I always love a good found family story, and this one was no different. The main thing that could sell a book for me are the characters, and each character in this book was amazing. I loved reading about the crew of the ship Fable joins so much and I loved their dynamics. Definitely a recommendation if you love found family stories and your favourite movie is Pirates of the Caribbean.

De verdad que, es un libro sin desperdicios, y espero que el segundo sea aun mejor y que siga teniendo es vibra especial. Por todo esto, le doy 5 estrellas, las primera que pongo del año y no me arrepiento. Estoy deseando leer Namesake y Saint.

Tengo que confesar que escogí este libro por su portada y el principio me pareció muy lento, sobretodo por toda la terminología marítima, pero me terminó gustando mucho porque es diferente a todo lo que he leído hasta ahora y la historia de superación de la protagonista es triste y fascinante a la vez. Me ha hecho sentir enfado, compasión, ilusión, cariño…

I was expecting more from this book, because of the lyrical writing, the beautiful descriptions, the adventure, and everything related to that; but, I am sorely disappointed with everything: the way the author forgot the smallest of details, all the things unsaid, the way the story took so long to end (either the chapters were WAY extended or it was just me?), the romance that felt so out of place, like a way of covering up all the mistakes (or maybe a hard to swallow pill tasting like castor oil or something worse). Not to mention that fact that the story should've ended when fable found saint, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO let's add some more unnecessary tension, an unwanted and out of place romance, and a character that rose from the dead........ 
This book had everything to be good, but I didn't see any of those wonders. The sequel is coming and my only fear now is to be let down again.

I always cringe when a full-blown fantasy pops up on one of the book club lists I follow. This one was a Reece Witherspoon young adult selection, so I went ahead and picked it up. I’ve never been a fan of fantasy (or most science fiction, though some of them have been quite fascinating). I can handle fantasy that is rooted in worlds with which I am already familiar, but I can’t get into new worlds and new creatures, that is just not my jam. However, I keep reading them, hoping to find another Harry Potter. 
	This one follows Fable, abandoned by her father after the death of her mother. I had a hard time with the initial storyline, simply because I couldn’t wrap my head around a parent completely abandoning a child on a dangerous island. It made zero sense to me, and the author didn’t really dive into the reasoning very well. From there, the story just didn’t mesh well for me. While it was clear Fable wanted off the island, it didn’t make sense that she would just jump on the first boat headed away from the island, especially after she spent so much time going over how much she didn’t trust the crew of said boat. 
	The crew didn’t want to have anything to do with Fable, but then they did? There had been a few trust-building scenes between Fable and the crew, the level of trust didn’t seem earned, so I was left even more baffled. Then Young added in the love story and I was done. I just didn’t like much about this book. I gave it three stars because there were parts of the book that intrigued me enough to want to keep reading, but they were few. I definitely won’t seek out any additional books in this series.

I really liked this book, it was like Fool’s Gold but with pirates. I struggled with a lot of the boat lingo which is why I gave it 4 stars (I had to skip over most of it otherwise I got too confused).
