I love books. I love fae characters. I love books with fae characters. In short, I love this book.

There’s an element in this book that feels so country-like and I love it. There aren’t so many books out there that doesn’t evolve in a love story – the romantic type. Yes, the story of this book centers in love – family, sisterly, and fatherly love. Even though there aren’t too much romance between the characters of opposite sex, something like kissing or touching that might give readers the feels, it was still interesting. I still adore this book.

The female lead journeys from their small (cozy) town to the Faewald, where she’ll received tons of betrayals in exchange to her efforts. She’ll capture a funny fae that will lighten the whole travel then later hinder it with his big mouth. The female lead is not annoying (for the first time!) and that’s a plus! In just a few pages in, I’m already laughing out loud. Can you imagine? a fae making hilariously naughty things in a desperate attempt to be noticed? Well, dive right in and let this book fill that imagination.

There’s an adorable and cozy way of naming that I love in this book. Each family has a unique surname depending upon its contribution to their community. As for Hunter, of course they hunt. The towns folks refer to each person in their surname first (like an attendance type). For example, the surname of our main character is Hunter, her father will be the main Hunter the townsfolk will be naming. Her mother will also be called Hunter in combination with the other name indicating she’s the wife – Hunter Mother (just an example), and the list goes on depending on how many members their family have. The same goes with every family in town.

Adventures, detours, pain, and love (not the romantic type). Just love, pure and holistic. The ending left me hanging but the good thing is, the second book is already out on 10th of March. Fae Hunter will surely fulfill your faery cravings.

This book has many elements that wooed me in even before reading it: a gorgeous cover, fae, romance and it was compared to The Cruel Prince. If you like those elements as well, chances are you will enjoy Fae Hunter. It was a fun read, and though the pacing was a bit slow in the beginning, it picked up after the first fifty or so pages. The deceiving and manipulative aspects of the fae made the story extremely lively and interesting, and though I loved what we got to see of them, I also wish we could have gotten to see more. In fact, the majority of the story is set in Allie’s very human village, and though the characters and their roles were quite stereotypical, the author still presented a wide array of different personalities and dynamics that made the story and setting believable.

My favorite parts were the interactions between Allie and one of the fae, Scouvrel. I will be honest, though the book is promoted as a ‘fantasy romance’, there was not much romance to be found. However, the snarky, sassy dynamic between these two was very entertaining, and it could pave the way for a future ‘hate-to-love’ relationship, that always tend to be my favorites!

Even so, there were a few aspects of Fae Hunter that didn’t quite sit well with me. 
The first has to do with the writing. While I found it enjoyable, sometimes it felt too colloquial and oscillated between eloquence and simplicity, which made it feel inconsistent. I also did not appreciate the constant, repetitive emphasis on the beauty and perfection of the fae—especially in the first part of the book.
My other issue has more to do with content. Allie loses her sight very early on in the book—as is hinted in the synopsis—and I was very interested in learning more about Allie’s ‘second sight’, which allows her to see auras in the spirit world while being completely blind to the world around her. Unfortunately, this book is a victim to one of my most dreaded fantasy tropes when it comes to dealing with disability, and Allie’s blindness felt like a convenient plot device rather than a deliberate attempt at representation. 

Overall, this was a good start to a series, and I’m curious to see where the story goes from here!

Angel Myers

This is the first book I have read from this author and, I have to say, I am a HUGE fan now. Fae Hunter was not what I was expecting. This isn't a book with beautiful, romanticized fae... and that's what makes it amazing. The fae in this book are cold, cruel, and twisted, just as they should be! The original fairy tales were dark and often deadly with sometimes gruesome depictions of consequences for the characters' actions. I love that this story feels like a callback to those original stories. It is so much more interesting than just another story about a pretty girl and an otherworldly beautiful fae falling in love. Allie Hunter is a survivor and a fighter and I can't wait to see how she tackles her fae problem in the books to come. Small warning, it is a bit of a cliffhanger at the end.
