This was so fun! Such a nice light fantasy with a great cast of characters, great adventure, and great writing. The twist on the chosen one trope was so unexpected. I didn't know what to think of it at first, but the more I read, the more it grew on me. I found Aaslo to be an interesting and likeable main character who dealt with loss and grief in a very unique way. 

Most fantasy books I read deal with serious, heavy, and sometimes dark topics and themes, and this one wasn't like that. This story was very comedic with lots of humorous moments and banter that made me laugh out loud multiple times. There was still a good balance between the humor and the serious moments though. 

I'm so eager to know how this story will continue into the second book. If you want to read a light fantasy with great comedy, I recommend this one. I gave this a high 4 star rating.

I’m like so completely confused. Why did it end like that? You literally could’ve just made it end better. The story got better but it was almost like just lacking to push itself over the finish line and the ending kind of screwed it up. I don’t think I liked it enough to read the next one but dammit I want to know how it ends now 😂

First off, that cover! It is brilliantly done. Definitely a bonus. 

I also really enjoyed the characters here. Aaslo is so gruff and lovable and just a joy to read. Mory and Peck are too much fun. Mathias is a riot. Teza, such a fun time. I love them all. 

The overall execution of the story was done fairly well. The pacing was decent, characters and plot were good. Honestly, I think the biggest issue here was the end. It just kind of happened? There was a lot of traveling and build up and it just didn't really HIT you as I had expected. I feel like there could have been much more to it.

But I like the lore and the build-up and the world. And it's not a stand-alone so I can see why I don't feel complete about it. Because it's not complete. But it just wasn't . . . enough? Yeah, I'm going with that.

One quick note for those who have read it (view spoiler)[ anyone else find it interesting that Magdelay tells Aaslo "Death. Your beach is death. So say ALL the prophets." and not only does he become able to control the dead, but also, he has a prophet that the others didn't know about. Interesting, no?  (hide spoiler)]

I enjoyed the story, I just felt like it was all over the place. I loved the characters. I think Tessa is my favorite. I also love the idea of the foresters. I am looking forward to the next one.

While I did find bits of this to be very slow, I really liked the premise and the banter between all the characters. The cliff hanger also makes me interested to see where the story is going to go from here.
