Came to this series by way of the Jonathan Kellerman books - I'm reading so much pulp crime fiction that I'm ready to write an algorithm on "how to"
* find a unique or unusual setting (time, place, religion, community)
* A corpse is found
* a variety of suspects are revealed
* (another death or more)
* a couple of twists
* some kind of character development over the arc of the series.

In this case it's adopted cop (Jewish by birth, baptist by upbringing) meets orthodox jewish victim ...not a bad series.
