Hmm. A good premise, and apposite. And it shines a light on the bravery and desperation of people desperately seeking some kind of security for themselves and their families. But boy is it overlong, and unnecessarily wordy, with some pretty stiff characters doing obvious things. 

According to the blurb, Lee Child reckons Porter to be “proud carrier of the Le Carre flag” but this is nowhere near that level of quality; there’s none of that easy command of language; of using a few words to conjure up setting and mood.
