Enjoyable main character, with flaws of his own, which we see impact his professional and personal life in equal parts. A character I’d love to read more about in [hopeful] future instalments.

The mystery of the present murderer, intertwined with other mysteries of the past that we, as readers, become increasingly informed of as the book continues, keeps you thinking the entire time. I didn’t see the twist coming, and Adam (the main character)’s reaction to this added an extra bit of depth to him that I loved to see.

That said, the writing felt lacking in some parts, where more detail could have been welcome, I was left wanting more depth- but this may be more personal preference. Plus, if we get more of Adam Tyler in the future, I’d be more than happy!

For fans of Adrian McKinty, Sharon Bolton, Ian Rankin and Broadchurch, this is the gripping, unmissable first novel in the DS Adam Tyler series.

Really enjoyed this. I often find it hard to like crime novels as I either can't get hooked into the novel or I often find it too simple to work out whodunnit. However, with this cracking debut novel, I was intrigued by the description. A man found bricked into a wall and a Gay detective! Some elements I felt didn't need to be in there which is why I couldn't give it 5 stars and I also found that the chapters were too long. However, there are many elements of the novel that I couldn't guess what was going on and I often don't find that so I was very impressed. I will definitely try his next novel.
