First Comes Scandal A Bridgerton Prequel
Reviews

I was expecting more drama based of the synopsis- kidnapping and using the dowry as ransom, reputation ruined forced to marry the rouge who ruined everything. But most was just told in story.
Though the rouge is a walking red flag (case-in-point the tree; iykyk), but major Gaston vibes. Though this isn't a beauty and the Beast storyline, he plays right into it.
Nicholas Rokesby is by all accounts the guy next door/guy friend we all fall for. Having raced home to save his best friend he is faced with a choice- standby and watch her reputation fall to ruination or marry her.
As they say...
First comes scandal, then comes marriage, then comes...love?

Another cute but unremarkable historical romance.

Finished this one in May 2020.
I was very excited for this before it was published, but was disappointed by this one. It drags, and there’s an incomprehensibly unnecessary sub plot with a cranky cat and very long carriage rides.
After being completely smitten by the first and third books, this was a letdown. It’s just fine. The main characters have some chemistry, and I appreciated that they’re both new to intimate relationships (often rare for a male lead in romance novels). But unfortunately it didn’t have the same sparkle for me as Billie and Poppy’s stories.

This was a lovely light easy read to lose myself in. Nicholas and Georgie were fun and a cute couple. They were easy to like but I admit the plot itself… not a whole lot happened. This was all very character focused and their romance with little external drama and very little relationship drama to be honest. That made it very easy to read but means I don’t have a whole lot to say about it. It was nice. Which sounds like a cop out but honestly what more can you say about a romance book where everything runs pretty much smoothly throughout? It’s the perfect low angst historical romance to spend an afternoon reading.

I really liked the story of Nicholas and Georgie.. Nicholas father is trying to quilt him into marrying Georgie after she was kidnapped by a guy trying to force her into marriage. Nothing happened, and Georgie escaped, but her reputation was ruined anyways.. It was the story of two friends that grew up together falling in love. One of my favorite parts is when they are traveling to scotland and one of the 3 cats is just not having it.. The whole way to the first stop he is just making nonstop noise.. Then Geogie ends up making him a hammock for him in the carriage, now he only moews super loud when he sees Nicholas and Georgie kiss.. It was a really sweet romance, and I will def. be reading more from Julia Quinn..

I really liked this book. I loved the two main characters of this read and also really enjoyed getting into both characters heads. I also grew to enjoy all the side characters as well. I also really liked the marriage of convince trope used and also the past friendship to romance troupe. It was a super fast pace read and one that I loved focused on the medical industry and had some adorable pets as well to capture me. I think the tale end had some pacing issues. But such a fun read!!

Loved it! Much more believable than most romances and forced (strongly encouraged) marriages.

Definitely not my favourite of the bridgerton/rokesby books, but I finished it and it was pretty solid. I think I would put it on par with Penelope/Collin's book.
