Oh boy. Let me say to start off, I loved this storyline. It was great. What was not great was the editing of this book. I know I had an ARC but the structure of this story was all over the place. There were huge continuity issues, as well as info dumps galore. It also proceeded at a break neck pace. The only reason I soldiered through was because of the story. With a massive edit, this could've been great. Unfortunately it wasn't. Ame is an okay character, but how we're introduced to her, and how she actually is, is two completely different people. Maddox at least is consistent. The supporting characters are great as well, even if the whole Liza/Grandma thing is totally random. Again though, it could work if edited and structured well. And finally, this: "...and yeah, I fucking hurt you during sex, wanna know why?... because I want to fucking kill you but it's the only time I can hurt you without it being abuse." I can't even with this. Is she serious? Abuse is abuse, it doesn't matter when, where, why or how. I get Amo is dark but this is far beyond the realm of acceptability that I am repulsed I actually read it. In short, this book could've been great. It's not.

2,5⭐ re wattpad todo, pero te perdono Amo

3.5 stars I loved the concept of this book. Imagine having a one night stand just to find out a few days later that the guy you slept with is your stepbrother. On top of that, the book started off with a flashback to when these characters were younger. They had met before and didn't even realize that. Amethyst is a fun character. She loves skating and is really serious about school. She doesn't go out much, but studies on Friday night. Amethyst realizes why she doesn't go out after the one night stand, haha. Maddox is an arrogant tough guy and doesn't take no for an answer. All he knows is he doesn't want to end up like his father. There was a lot of hurt in his past and Amethyst seems to make him feel a lot again. Maddox's father would rather see him concentrate on his fighting, but Amethyst is just too important. Like most romances, there is some drama. Things happen that make it hard for them to be together, but things bring them back together as well. Flip Trick was a book that started off really strong to me. A lot of sweet moments, funny characters and clear chemistry. I expected something to go wrong and it did, but once things looked bright again, I didn't expect it to go wrong again so soon. To me there was just a little bit too much drama. Maybe a bit predictable in some areas. And the characters became a bit toxic for each other. I still enjoyed this book though. There is a lot of humor, the characters are so much fun (especially Maddox's brothers) and I liked the mixed up family dynamics. Another thing I found interesting in this book is how time goes by. Even though Flip Trick skips up to six months at times, we get flashbacks to important moments. The author thought about this really well! This definitely won't be my last Amo Jones book!

Liked the beginning and the (h) and (H), but then the plot went all over the place. The MC also just got on my nerves a lot of the times and gave me pick me vibes. She also lost her back bone. Then the MC would forgive the guy for everything he did and just ignore that it even happened. At points the guy was really sweet but just plain abusing sometimes.

I received an ARC of this book from the author and I voluntarily reviewed it. Thank you Amo Jones! I always described Amo Jones as the Queen of Darkness. I had it all wrong. Or maybe a little wrong. She’s not only the Queen of Darkness with a capital D, but also the Queen of Angst with a capital effing A. I actually really loved this story. It spoke to me on so many levels. Amo Jones was able to accurately represent what it’s like to be falling for someone for the first time. How we let our brains stand in front of our hearts like a shield. How we let the “what if’s” drown out what our heart wants to tell us. How taking the leap for the first time is scary as f*uck. If I may quote my favourite rapper NF : “I don’t trust this thing that beats inside my chest”. I love where Jones took it at the end. It was totally messed up and whack. It was Amo’s signature. That, and the constant push and pull between Maddox and Amethyst. It was road block after roadblock for them, and it will make your heart break and make you yell “NO!” at every turn in the story. I loved them both as characters. They were such fun to read, and Maddox had me all hot and bothered. Dayum. My most favourite thing about this book though, is the challenging of the definition of the word “Family”. Is it blood? Is it who raised you? Is it who home is? Is it your reconstructed family? Is it who you call when you need someone? All these questions and scenarios come up, and the answer is simple : it’s who you choose your family to be, whether you’ve known them you’re whole life, or a few days. And I can’t forget the playlist to this book. Nostalgia from my childhood favourites I used to sing in the car with my mum, and new favourites I belt out on the daily. From Nirvana to Halsey, from Lenny Kravitz to Post Malone. To be honest, I miss early 2000s rock, and this just brought me back. I liked seeing this side of Amo Jones’ writing. The story read super well. It was fluid, and gave you all the feels. Is there anything Jones can’t do?
