Robbie has a nice mixture of skills making her a protagonist who can save herself. That said, she also has a good support crew of friends and family (her aunt) to help her through this crisis.

This book wasn't bad, but I feel like there was just a little too much going on for the first novel in a series. It was hard to get the full emotion of everything the heroine was dealing with so quickly. The mystery was OK, but I kind of kept forgetting about it because of everything else going on which is disappointing. 

First novels in a series sometimes have some rough spots, so while I didn't feel passionate about this one, I'm willing to give the second book a try. A little bit of rambling and plucking threads doesn't have to be bad, and I know some people really enjoy that because it gives a little more depth to the world.
