I was disappointed that the touchingly beautiful parts of Flux were brought down by the banal, one-sentence lines masquerading as poems. I’m not wholly unhappy by this collection, but I’m not satisfied either.

It’s worth a read, as it doesn’t take long to work through from beginning to end. But don’t catch yourself comparing Carloto to Rupi Kaur, because you’ll be let down.

I hope to read more of Carloto in the future. The parts of this collection that I loved really stood out beautifully. She chooses her words with care, and I appreciate that.

I am a sucker for maudlin poetry and the neo-poems on loss, life, breakups, mental health... Orion Carloto's 'Flux' is all that but it fails to connect with me. It could be because I OD'd on poems like that, written by Rupi Kaur, Nikita Gill, Lang Leav, and Amanda Lovelace, that I have finally become weary. 'Flux', despite seeming honest, doesn't create a deep impact.

I like phrase or two but the whole book is just boring.

Comparing this one to her second one, the first feels more raw, the sadness seeping between the words and all. The second feels like rushing in for me, while the first is almost like a gentle sway in the middle of a bustling city. I am not making any sense, I hope you get the point.

I wish I read this book sooner! I related to these poems so much. I wish I read it right after my breakup. The poems are mostly about being in a one sided relationship and how it feels being cut out of that person's life after the relationship ended. After so many poems I was left with... "wow". Some poems dug deep inside my heart even months after my relationship ended. Of course there were a few 10-20 word poems that I was not excited to read but there were more longer poems than short. The artwork in this book was absolutely beautiful!! I kept going back to the pages with the drawings, to admire them! I loved how there were a few pictures of her personal journal entries too. This book surprised me. I thought this book would be completely cliche but there were so so so many beauties in it! I didn't want to put in down! Already can't wait to read it again !

If you're looking for a poetry book about heartbreak that you can read under 30 minutes, this fits the spot. I really enjoyed the writing, however, I must point out one thing: when people end relationships, it is so very important to be able to understand that if someone doesn't want to be with you, whichever their reason may be, that is okay, and they're not at fault because of it. If you read this book and are going through a similar situation, please don't get engulfed in the resentment it reflects.

To put Flux in one word: WOW. I'm super late to getting this posted. A year late. And I've just reread the collection and realized that, somehow, I never finished my review of it when it was first published. Don't worry, I'm ashamed plenty enough for all of us and will be grounding myself, effective immediately.

In truth, about the delay, it was mostly because I was sick a lot last autumn and winter, and when I am sick I get foggy and hare-brained. Flux deserved a real review, anyways, and not a rushed or half-assed one like it might have gotten then. It didn't click in my mind that I hadn't gotten around to reviewing it.

Flux was like reading a shared diary between yourself and a soul-mate. A friend. A tangled series of thoughts and moments that make you come to life. It's the kind of collection that you absorb just as much as its words absorb you. Which sounds trippy, and maybe a little lame, in explanation but if you've read Flux you'll know exactly what I mean by it. It's smart and influential, captivating and honest.

There was so much in Flux that made me feel deeply connected to the prose and my highlighting was a bit out of control. Carloto comes across exactly as you'll hope: genuine. And her prose is intimate to just the right degree. Flux is just pure, heart pounding revelations that will leave the modern poetry lover feeling something indescribable.

I adored this collection and look forward to hearing more from Orion Carloto in the future.
