Folsom

Folsom

The nation as we know it is a thing of the past. With the male species on the verge of extinction, a society called the End Men is formed to save the world. Folsom Donahue is one of twelve men whose sole purpose is to repopulate the Regions. The endless days spent having sex with strangers leaves Folsom with an emptiness no amount of women, money, or status can fill. Until Gwen. Gwen has wanted a child for as long as she can remember, but when she finally gets a chance to have her own, she uncovers a long-hidden truth. The injustice she sees moves her to help save the men whom no one else believes need saving. A forbidden love, grown in a time of despair, ignites a revolution. Folsom and Gwen, torn between their love for each other and their sense of duty, must make a choice. But some will stop at nothing to destroy them. Folsom is book one of the End of Men series.

** spoiler alert ** So this was interesting. I went into this book knowing very little about it and I think that was for the best. I knew this book was about how men were pretty much on the endangered species list and most were sterile. This book was something I haven't ever read before and was very different but in a good way. It really held my attention and had some great characters. Characters: In this story, we have the two main characters, Gwen and Folsom. Gwen is an essential character but not my favorite for the fact she kind of annoyed me? She handles certain situations weirdly and her priorities were all over the place. She also was put in many situations where she was being put down but just sat there and took it, which really irks me. I love for my female characters to have a backbone and be strong but also have compassion too. She kind of fell flat to me for the first 2/3 of the book. Folsom I loved! His personality was rough around the edges but he was still appealing. I loved being in his head and seeing his life from his eyes because I mean come on that is the main reason I reading this right? He had so many different emotions and I really liked seeing him process new experiences. One of the side characters, Jackal was one of my favorites. He was probably the only close friend to Folsom, and even though he is a little crazy he was also very helpful. I can't wait for his story in the next book. Plot: The plot is really creative. I mean come on...A world where women rule over men?! That will be the day. I think the world building was a little fast but I wasn't confused either. I think this was a fast-paced read and once you start it's hard to stop. I overall really liked the story but some of the plot was a little weird. I didn't understand the whole let's oppress men and all be lesbians thing. I understand that if there is a shortage of men than women would seek out female companionship since women are more passionate beings by nature. What I didn't understand is why did women turn around and do the same thing men used to do to us and still sometimes do, which is treat women like objects that they own and like they are not equal. I would think if the world were to come to be run by women, we would definitely do it differently than men did. I understand that this book is driven by this very taboo world of sex and power but it seems a little extreme and not that logical. I am the kind of person that likes common sense and some of the story didn't. The main thing I was confused on was why couldn't we just use artificial insemination. This book takes place in the future so artificial insemination already existed. The excuse was that the government gave up on science after the war......what the F**K? for what? If you still have cars, airplanes, and drugs that make a guy hard for hours on end, why can't you take a needle full of sperm and inject it into the uterus? I mean is it just too much common sense? Especially considering the main character is a scientist/doctor who is researching how this whole sterile situation happened. I do understand though why the author made it this way. This is a romance and their needs to be sexual content that draws in the reader. Well for most readers that is. Writing: I don't have too much to say about the writing style. It's nothing special but it is really fast passed and easy to read. Overall: Overall I really enjoyed this book! Besides me having my small quirks about things just making sense, I really enjoyed this one and can't wait for the next in the series.

IVE NEVER BEEN SO ANGRY WITH A BOOK. I will be back with a review So this book actually made me throw my kindle across the bed in frustration. I picked it up for free in kindle unlimited because I love Tarryn Fisher’s work and thought this would be a quick read. Boy did I underestimate this novel. I had been angry throughout the novel, this is definitely not a light hearted read. It makes you think about the world we live in and how it could be a scary future, sort of an opposite gender Handmaid’s Tale. This book left me with so many questions, some I wanted to ask throughout the novel and some after I was left with that cliff hanger. This was a unique love story, it was kind of predictable from the start what would happen romantically but other than that the story was unpredictable. There were so many twists and turns you just couldn’t see coming. I loved the way the story went on, never dwelling too much on one thing, it was quickly paced. The downfall of this was that it left so many unanswered questions. And then the ending?? I should mention, this series was never finished. So if you’re like me and planned on reading the series after this ending from hell, you’re going to be disappointed. It was 4am, I planned on going to bed, maybe starting the sequel Jackal but I was not happy to discover the second book leaves on a cliff hanger as well, only with the third book announced and never published. I’ve never been so angry with a book before, like I was actually enraged at times and had to put it down. Characters made my blood boil, but in my opinion, that’s what makes a great book. This one will definitely stay with me (even if I don’t want it too). So if you’re ready for a rollercoaster of emotions, pick up this book.

I didn’t know what to expect going into this one. I’m such a fan of Tarryn Fisher’s work, and when I heard this had a dystopian feel, I was 100% intrigued. I’m happy to say I loved it! . Folsom is set in a world where the male population is dwindling, therefore creating a need for women to reproduce. A society called End Men is formed by all competent males, whose time is purchased for the sole purpose of reproducing. . This was such a unique concept and I loved how this story played out. It all ended with an opening for more, and I can’t wait to see where Book 2 will take us. (Thank you to Tarryn Fisher for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.)
