Whenever I finish a novella, I’m left with this feeling of wanting MORE. I loved the world and the glimpses of lore and history we got and wish it could’ve gotten a whole book of it. Despite it being so short, there were moments that the pacing was slow for me, and then there’s were other times when it was too fast, and I had wished we’d linger on a plot point for a moment longer. Regardless, this was enjoyable and filled me with a range of emotions, which include: joy, hope, anxiety, and devastation. I don’t know if I’ll be thinking about this story in the far future because of the length of it, but I feel confident that I will recommend this.

The only thing wrong with this book is how short it is 😩 I wasnt expecting much but Lee's writing style was pure bliss , there was so much to explain and yet it didn't feel jumbled and messy and I loved the ending , it left me with a warm feeling

I would have liked a lot more obsession and monstrosity, BUT if I ignore that, this was a gorgeous, racing, bite-sized fantasy with all the dynamic action and strong character I trust Fonda to bring, and fuelled my continual love for birds of prey. Maybe that was my problem because I simply cannot conceive of these birds being monsters when this is my literal dream. Anyway, I want one. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC and Tordotcom for continually feeding me.

I wish it was longer 😭 Sobrang emotional, had to hold back my tears bcus kasama ko pamilya ko. Formalist-wise (theme), sobrang ganda ng pagbitbit nung overarching themes of growth, freedom, and birds HAHA luv it would recommend 10/10

Untehthered Sky: 4/5 A cute standalone novella that definitely holds its own. I wish it was longer but fantastic as is. The characters were awesome and had depth & the ending even made me tear up. One of the best standalone novellas I've ever read.

** spoiler alert ** it’s giving httyd 3 iykyk 🥲 3.75 stars

I've read another book by Lee that I didn't love, but I wanted to give her another go. I did enjoy it but didn't love it. I did like the characters and thought the world was engaging. I liked learning more about the rocs and their interactions with the ruhkers. The relationship between Ester and Zahra was my favorite thing about this. It was interesting watching their bond form, and how it played out tugged on my heartstrings. I also liked Ester's relationship with Darius. They were so supportive of one another and could rely on each other for anything. I don't think this was a bad story, and I would recommend it to fantasy fans, but there's something about Lee's writing style that I don't click with.

This was an excellent adventure. It was a pleasantly short (only 150 pages!) and easy to read work. The characters felt real and diverse, despite the length. Having giant rocs feature as characters in a story was refreshing and fun (but as a bird lover I may be biased)! I would gladly read another story in this world.

Fantasy novella supremacy but also I’d read a whole series with this premise.
