3.5

I loved this one even more than book one! And I loved book one a lot!! We pick up right where we left off in book one. Steel has gone off on his own to hunt down his sister Silver, and only Emberly knows what's going on. But when he lets it slip that he's found her, Emberly knows he needs help. Her and the gang set off to find him, and try to help. But a battle with Forsaken go wrong, and Emberly is taken captive. She wakes up in a Fallen stronghold and discovers her captor Thorne is a mysterious angel-born like her. He's dark and manipulative, and claims that Emberly is meant to rule along with him. Emberly tries to learn as much as she can while plotting her escape. When the truth is revealed, and things go wrong, will Emberly and Steel be able to find each other again? This book was very fast paced! We get to see so much more of the spirit realm in this one, which is really interesting. And the thing I'm most here for is the character growth! Emberly is learning new things about herself and the entire Nephilim world. Steel goes through so much and also grows so much. We love to see it! I also adore the interactions with all of the side characters. They're all my favorite. Maybe Sterling just a little more than the others. Maybe. Thorne was a really interesting character. He's giving me very strong Darkling and Sebastian/Jonathan from Shadowhunters vibes with the whole "you're meant to rule by my side" thing. I liked learning more about Emberly and her powers through her interactions with him. And I'm definitely intrigued to see how everything continues to play out in the next book. We're learning some new things about the world and how Emberly fits into it all, and I'm so curious to see how it all turns out! There's so many twists and turns in here! Some you see coming and some you probably don't. I felt all the feels reading it, and it was so hard to put it down and not just stay up all night reading! Seriously, I can't recommend this series enough! And grab a physical copy because dang y'all. That art!
