The backstory or early days of Psychohistory, following Hari Seldon from his 40s to his 80s as his research expands, the Empire disintegrates, and he becomes a target of the opposition. There’s quite a bit of polite, drawn-out conversations and not too much action. As a prelude to The Foundation series, it wouldn’t make me want to read the classic series. For my purposes, since I read the original trilogy a long time ago, this was a good refresher what with the TV show in production.
(This review was originally posted under Prelude to Foundation, as that’s what the library audiobook was listed as. When I checked out the sequel, I was surprised and a bit confused that it was the story I had just listened to. Turns out a lot of incidents referenced in this book actually happen in the first. It follows Hari in his 30s as he presents his seminal paper on psychohistory, adopts Raych, meets Dors, etc. At this point, I’d rather re-read the original trilogy than wade through another book of heavy political and strategic conversations.)

Really good. It has been ages since I finished the second Foundation Trilogy and this was still immersive and satisfying. I need to get around to reading all the Asimov there is at some point.
