fun! i really enjoyed the red turtleneck story just bc i thought it was rly funny the way tomio walked… sorry to say i also laughed at the cockroach lol. i thought gentle goodbye was unexpectedly sweet and sad. ruriko in dissection-chan’s facial expressions were soooo creepy and also hilarious to me, and i felt that one and blackbird had rly strong story arcs that kept me going. thought whispering woman was a little too predictable and futon + wooden spirit didn’t have as much story to them, so they were a bit weaker to me. overall a very fun and entertaining way to spend my evening, and it made me crave more junji ito works!

Wonderful! What an imaginative set of stories.

3.5

Not his best work.

I thought this was going to be a 3-star read after I read the first two stories, but oh god the rest are just nuts. My favorites would have to be Tomio-red turtleneck (possibly the freakiest, most disgusting story I've read from his collections) and Blackbird. I really enjoyed Whispering Woman and Gentle Goodbye too. There's a nice mix of ghost stories, malevolent spirits, creepy people, and body horror in this collection too, I think. I'm quite surprised at how much I enjoyed the stories with body horror. I mean I don't like body horror in novels or movies, but in manga? Oh yes, sign me up. And now I'm looking at this. Please don't ask me what's wrong with me, because I also do not know.

THIS. THIS IS MY THANG.

dude i want a house made out of eyes

⭐️ 3 Stars ⭐️ I enjoyed reading this book, but there wasn’t a story that felt “wow” to me. I did enjoy almost every story, and there weren’t any disappointing ones expect the first, so overall my experience was good. It’s a nice read when you want junji ito’s style, but just don’t expect anything breath-taking. At least, again, probably the most won’t disappoint you, at least in my opinion. Definitely would check more of his work, really excited to read more and find my most favorite stories of him.
