I went to this book thinking it was going to be a 5-stars, my next favourite book, the one I wouldn't shut up about for months. Turns out I can't even decide if I should recommend it or not. And rating this book from 1 to 5 stars also doesn't seem enough. I loved the story, it touches on important subjects and I had a great time reading it. Although I didn't enjoy the romance and I wish I could cut it off the end. But that doesn't make it a bad book - or does it?

I completely fell in love with Eliza and her story. At first, she was a likeable character and sometimes even a bit selfish and spoiled - but not everyone is perfect. She wanted to be herself in her odd way that no one else seemed to understand. As the story goes on she starts to become more aware of the world around her instead of the online one and grows as a character. That's my favourite part of the entire book, see Eliza grow and change for better as she's dealing with her mental health.

But then there is also the romance part of the book and here is when everything kind off fell apart for me. I have to say the beginning of the romance is a little bit cliché, the creator meets the number one fan and none of them knows who the other is. Although, that didn't bother me and for the majority of the book I was happy for Eliza to find someone perfect for her. But when the problems come up my opinion on Wallace changed. I didn't like how he deals with Eliza mental health issues, at some point he even turns the problem to himself. She ends up apologizing for being ill and for not thinking about Wallace feelings. He makes her feel even worse about herself, how does that help anyone with mental health issues?

Bottom line, I would erase the romance from the end of the story. Eliza was going to be ok with the help of her therapist, her family and online friends as she did. Having a boyfriend just for the sake of having one doesn't cure any problems and Wallace wasn't the best person for her to be with at that time in her life.

So should you read this book? Yes, Eliza's story needs to be read and shared since it not only leads with mental health as well as the danger of an online life. But don't read it just for the romance.

           When I started reading Eliza and Her Monster I honestly thought it was just going to be another one of those cheesy YA books (don't get me wrong, I love cheesy YA), and it was. But it was also so much more. The first half is calm, has a good pace, and gives you time to know the characters and where they come from. The second part hits you right in the feels. Eliza and Her Monsters touches on depression, anxiety, suicide, (PTSD, if we can describe Wallace selective mutism as such), and it does so in a way you can actually relate to what she is feeling with each sentence.
I loved it. More than I thought I would.
