This book is about the lives of migrant farm workers, their children and the struggle for a better life. Panchito, aka Jiménez, moved with his family from Mexico to California to pursue their dreams. They moved in search for a better job, but it turned out not as he imagined it to be. As a child, he took care of his younger siblings while his family were busy in the farm, earning a living. When he grew up, he helped by working in the fields. Although he failed his first year in school because of his weak English skills, he did not give up but instead it made him want to learn more. He ended up graduating from Columbia University with a master's degree. This story was written from the point of view of a child, which makes it accessible to children too. It is an awe-inspiring insight into the lives of laborers who are deprived from their basic needs.
