It gets 0.5 stars just for the lil parallel of father and son at the last page. Terrible writing. Terrible plot twist. Could have been an interesting plot overall if it had been written better with more detail and character background. I was excited to read a murder mystery but now know that i will not read any of her other books.

Wow, I was not expecting the very end!! The entire book was full of twists and turns, but the epilogue really drove it home! I’ll definitely be reading more from this author.

           i swearrr to god my feelings were all over the place. i didn't know what to feel, WHO TO BELIEVE. it's like this book also manipulated my mind the same way shane did brooke's. IT'S SO GOOD IDK HOW FREIDA DOES THIS SHE IS SO QUEEN I LOVE YOU. anyways go read this book ACTUALLY ALL HER BOOKS. freida never disappoints. 5 ⭐️.

I need to stop doubting freida. She makes you think that the story is going to go down the most predictable path. For the majority of the book, I was just believing that Shane couldn’t have possibly killed everyone because that’s what happens right? It’s always the person you least expect. And then she pulled the ol switcheroo and made Brooke believe that Shane and Tim were a team and I was like “oh yeah, that actually makes a lot of sense”, and then MARGIE is actually Shane’s mother and the second killer? It’s giving Scream 2.
I bow down to Miss McFadden’s ability to keep you guessing

i love freida mcfadden. 

i went in thinking this was going to be a thriller ... but it didn't give me those vibes. it was extremely suspenseful but it didn't? thrill me? either way, the inmate was a great read - it had me hooked all the way through. i genuinely couldn't stick to a theory! my mind was changing every couple of chapters. i was right, then i was wrong, and then i was right again. definitely recommend this book if you want a little "who did it" mystery with good plot twists :)

The book begins with Brooke Sullivan returning to her hometown and back into her childhood home after her parents die in an accident. Having some trouble finding a job, Brooke lands a job as a NP in a maximum-security prison. It just so happens to be the same prison where Shane Nelson, Brooke's ex-boyfriend and the father of her 10-year-old son Josh, is being housed for Brooke's attempted murder 11 years ago. Not only that but the other survivor from that night, Tim Reese, Brooke's best friend growing up, works at the same school Josh will be attending. Freida McFadden does a great job of switching from present day to 11 years ago, as she explains what lead up to the current situation. As I listened, I found myself feeling pretty self- assured I could guess the ending. However, I was wrong and enjoyed some of the unexpected twists and turns used to finish the story. Were there a number of obvious clues? OF COURSE!!! Did author Frieda McFadden use obvious cliches from most thriller books such as storms, no cell service, impassable roads..... etc.? Sure did! However, it was a good quick listen and kept me wanting to know more as the story went. I don't want to give too much detail as I feel it will give too much of the book away! I will most definitely be reading or listening to more from Freida McFadden!!
