Im Alter von 51 Jahren verfasste Friedrich Baron de la Motte Fouqué eine erste Autobiographie nachträglich zu seinem 50. Geburtstag (1828). Der Text, in einer kleinen Auflage 1930 von Hans Kasten als „Bremer Liebhaber-Druck“ herausgegeben, ist heute so gut wie verschollen. Um so willkommener ist es, dass im vorliegenden Band 19 der Werkausgabe Fouqués (Abt. II) nun sowohl die Bremer Ausgabe als auch eine Schreibmaschinenabschrift durch Erich Schilder aus dem Jahre 1949 den Lesern wieder zugänglich gemacht werden. Ergänzt wird diese autobiographische Schrift um die 1840 veröffentlichte „Lebensgeschichte“ des alternden Fouqué, die manches anders darstellt als die Arbeit „zum Halbjahrhundert“. Beide Texte präsentieren Fouqué „auf dem Wege“; die zweite Monographie von 1840 ist auch das Dokument eines Vergessenen, der sich seines eigenen „Ruhmes“ erinnern will. At the age of 51 Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué wrote his first autobio–graphy, belatedly marking his 50th birthday (1828). The text, published in 1930 by Hans Kasten in a small edition as part of the series “Bremer Liebhaber-Drucke” is as good as lost today. So it is all the more welcome that in this 19th volume of Fouqué’s works (Section II) both the Bremen edition and a typescript copy made by Erich Schilder in 1949 are once more made available to readers. This autobiographical work is complemented by the „Lebensgeschichte“ first published in 1840 by the ageing Fouqué, which depicts some things differently from the work “for the half-century. Both texts present Fouqué “on the journey”; the second monograph from 1840 is also the document of a forgotten figure who wants to remind himself of his own “fame”.
