Do you like political intrigue fantasy books? Enemies to lovers? Quests? Found family? Then this may very well be the book for you!

Of Liars and Thieves follows a group of 5 individuals who are sent on a quest to find a couple of beasts that are causing havoc around different villages and to return them to the pages they were born in. 

I'm in awe that this is this author's debut novel because the author did a really good job with it. I was enchanted by the world and the atmosphere created. I definitely was excited to read what came next as I was reading, absorbing the different locations that the characters were taken into. I felt like I was a character in this book, holding my breath to find out what was going to happen next.

The characters were well developed, but sometimes I did struggle to connect with them individually. However, when put together within the group, it was easy to tell their voices apart. The only thing I will say is that for my personal taste the chapters were a tad bit too long. However, I understand that this is considered *I believe* a high fantasy novel and these types of novels usually have longer chapters.

I'm definitely excited to see what the world of Raymara will have for us in store in the future!

This novel begins the tale of three unlikely companions thrown together on an epic quest to stop ultimate destruction. It brings all of the elements of a fantasy novel that we all have come to love: magic, mystery, a rich world with lore stretching back through the ages. The three main characters are entertaining and even had me laughing to myself at times. 

Where the novel falls off is in it's "freshness". The fantasy genre is very saturated with novels and to stand out, one must bring something new to the table. Unfortunately, this novel did not do so for me. 

At the end of the day, we all like to escape into new worlds and forget our own for a spell. Gabriela Lavarello offers a good escape and an enjoyable fantasy novel, just not one that stands out in a crowd.
