Aaaahhhh... I was not expecting THAT. The ending caught me by surprise but I still think this book is overhyped. It is a great book and being a debut it tells a lot about what this author can write next, but it wasn't as overwhelmed as I thought I would be. The mysterious childhood of Eleanor is teased at the beginning of the book and then it's completely left hanging for the rest of the story until the last 100 pages. I would prefer it to be something only explored at the end or something that was shown gradually. For me, the turning point in Eleanor's life was too sudden and radical. I wish it would be something that was gradually changing throughout the story instead of being a chapter break. Although it left time to explore Eleanor's personality and truly like her. I also appreciate a lot the lack of romance. When a story is this heartfelt and mental-health focused you need compaction, loving, and caring characters not a big romantic kiss. Not every problem can be solved by adding a boyfriend to the mixture, and it's refreshing when a book can stay away from that.
