3.5/5 stars If I Stay- 3/5 star Where She Went- 4/5 star The books belonged together but didn't. If I stay was more thriller-y. but Where She Went covered more of their relationship. I enjoyed Where She Went more because I just felt If I Stay needed more it felt incomplete. Mia is ehhh. I don't know if I really care for her character. I loved Mia's family. I could feel their love. I feel for Adam. He lost them too not just Mia. This was a quick read.

Mia is 17 and out of school for a snow day. The whole family gets together, they love music and seem like a nice loving warm family. Then there is an accident. Mia doesn't remember the accident, her parents are gone and she is outside of her body seeing herself in a coma. She then leads us through her realization that she has to make a decision. She can choose to go. Her parents are gone, She has no memory of what happened to her brother and she has to chooses between the pain and fear of living without her parents or the unknown. We get a description of visitors and we hear about her past stories with her family. Even though Forman moves from repeatedly past to present the story remains fluid and engaging. The depth of the emotions that Mia must navigate through is beautifully written. I really enjoyed the emotional journey through this book and would read others by Gayle Forman.
