Set at the beginning of the industrial revolution, Silas Marner weaves a telling social commentary into an inspiring tale of love and redemption.

The most interesting consideration for me was the idea that Eliot presents about how we ascribe blame for immoral things, in this case Godfrey sort of blaming all his woes (vices, his secret wife and child, etc) on the bad influence of his little brother rather than taking any accountability.

A bit slow-paced with some fine insights on life. It was an overall easy read with sweet relationships between husband and wife, and father and daughter; it had a delightful ending.

After wrongly being branded a thief, Silas Marner loses both his fiancee and his faith. Driven from the religious community where his reputation is so besmirched, the embittered Silas settles at Ravensloe, where he leads a reclusive life as a weaver. When an orphaned child finds her way into Silas's house he is given the chance to transform his life. His fate, and that of the little girl he adopts, is entwined with Godfrey Cass, son of the village squire, who, like Silas, is trapped by his past.

Poor Silas is a loner who tends to have moments of blackouts and just wants to sit at his loom. His one and only friend betrays him, he’s accused of theft and excommunicated. He leaves in the middle of the night to start over. In his new life he acquires much wealth and spends most of his time worshiping his gold. When that is stolen, he is once again at rock bottom until a small little orphan girl wanders in his home and his heart. He learns of life’s true rewards.

Audiobook was well narrated excepted when he tried to use different voices with the characters. Some are so muddled you can’t understand what is being said.

Silas Marner is a wholesome story, with a nice and simple plot. The book doesn't have a whole pile of action, but is a good read nonetheless.

The simplicity of the story is what attracted me most, such a light read it was to brighten my mood, with lovely characters that I learned a lot from. I got attached to certain characters in the village, it is a shame that I had to part and leave them behind. 

It brought back all those Jane Austen’s novels’ vibes in a charming way. 
 I won’t give the plot out but if you’re a fan of Austen, you should give a try. You’ll definitely love it!
