A moderately readable telling of a tale that I never knew existed. I confess to complete ignorance of the extent of white slavery in North Africa. 

Milton's narrative is generally engrossing, although I don't know if I'd go so far as to say I couldn't put it down. I feel like he gets by on the curiosity of the topic and the specific subjects in the story, which is commendably researched and thoroughly sourced. He tells the story capably but doesn't add an excess of flair.
