Obake: Ghost Stories of Hawaii

Fun easy read. The author doesn't really make an effort to convince you any of the stories literally happened or that the book is nonfiction, which I appreciated, and is instead just a collection of Japanese folklore/oral stories from Hawai'i. Not particularly complex or willing to go into the more interesting history or ethnography behind the stories, although it hints at it a little, I just wish there was more of that. Dude was a college professor at Hawaii Tokai International College for 30 years and by all accounts seems to be a really passionate guy, and has won a few awards, so I kept waiting for him to say a little bit about his upbringing in either Hawaii or Japan because I was assuming he was either Japanese or born in Hawaii or something to tie it together in a personal way but he was born in L.A. lol
