3 star. buddy read In a world where magic is forbidden and anyone who exhibits such is sentenced to death. Etta has magic and cursed, hoping to end the war between non-magic and magic folk alike. But to do so, she must get close to the royal family. This is a rendition of Sleeping Beauty and Rapunzel, where some scenes were beautifully written but majority of the book felt like filler. The author attempts to fill the rest of the scenes with emotional turmoil and love but falls short. I wish more things happened in the book, and that another editor proofread the book as there were grammatical errors.

** spoiler alert ** I'm such a sucker for fairytale retellings. Like I saw a Prince or Princess mentioned in the book description, plus points if it comes with a promise of great adventure and romance... then I would immediately add that to my ever growing TBR. I just love the dazzling places and how it takes me from my reality to a place of magic and beauty. For Golden Curse, I adore the concept, mixing in Aurora to Rapunzel's story. That's quite amazing! Though, I'm yet to judge how this story unfolds but I trust it'll be good. Memorable Quote (1/2) "People will say differently, but it isn't the magic that makes a person good or bad. It’s how they use it. You have a choice. Use it for good and you will be good." I greatly enjoyed the journey of Etta so far, and how the action scenes were portrayed. I like that it was shown enough for the audience to believe Etta is a highly skilled warrior. Yes there were also parts I felt that it was rushed which makes it hard for me to fully connect with the characters. Like when Etta just met Maiya. For a trained warrior, she trust people too easily. I was a bit frustrated with the chemistry between Etta and Alex's relationship and how it slowly builds up. The attraction is super obvious, but I rarely felt that they "love" each other, maybe they don't at this point. And maybe it has someting to do with the "cursed". To be fair, Etta and Alex romantic scenes was actually kinda hot for me... and there's that. I wish for Alex to fully embrace his role as king, and not be afraid. Overall, the writing is okay. It's a quick read and the world is easy to get into. The story is interesting enough that I'll probably end up buying the whole series soon. For an affordable ebook, I'm proud to say it was a worthy experience. Memorable Quote (2/2) "How can I be a criminal for something I didn't choose?" So if you're just looking for something to read in one sitting with a bad-ass female MC, you should definitely read Golden Curse.

This was probably the MOST boring book I’ve ever read. The plot had so much potential but the author really said “it’s no big deal, I’ll make the characters as dry as a piece of cardboard left under burning sun for a year”. I don’t have anything against this book, honestly. And I REALLY tried to love it. So. Hard. Ada wasn’t that bad, but Alex? Oh god. He was as appealing as the remaining ashes of 100 bucks. Meaning that initially he had great potential but he decided to be a *sad* boy all the damn time.
