Goldie Vance is a sweet graphic novel that gives me old school Nancy Drew vibes. I love a fun graphic novel, especially one with lots of spunk like this one! Goldie lives in her Father's resort, and she's great at getting into shenanigans. She's really good at solving tiny cases, like missing jewelry within the hotel. When a bigger mystery comes about, she decides to help a detective solve it since her curiosity is just too high! Goldie is spunky and fun, everything you want in a character like this. She reminds me of Nancy Drew, Cam Jansen, and those other fun books from my childhood! Except this time, it's in graphic novel form! I can easily see middle graders, young adults, new adults and just adults loving this story. There's really no set age group - it's just a fun mystery! The illustrations were spectacular and super colourful. They drew my attention in and kept it there, alongside the excellent story. Throw in that this book also has a diverse cast and is LGBT friendly, and I'm even more excited. Overall, this story was super sweet and cute! Four out of five stars. Thank you to NetGalley and Boom! Studios for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

I adore the art!

a queer woc as our main character? sign me the FUCK up! it was so cute and soft and easy to read. theres so much diversity im sad at how underrated this is. 4.5 stars :-)

4.5! idk if anything will best volume 3 for me, but this was pretty darn fun.

4.5 - well, THIS was utterly charming. [heart eyes]

Oh, I like where this arc is going! (not that I haven't liked the others, but I like this one best.)

Oh, this book was just delightful! It's a Nancy Drew for the modern age, with wonderfully diverse characters, lots of humour, and an exciting mystery! It is aimed at younger readers, so the plot is relatively simple and moves fast. But it's a great read for the younger crowd, and it is filled with some fantastic, vibrant, retro art! (Though perhaps it is important to ensure that the younger ones know that you just cannot steal cars even if your reason is thwarting evil international spies)

Very enjoyable graphic novel.

I was really looking forward to reading this. It sounded perfect to me. 60’s setting? Mystery? Spunky protagonist? Queer romance? Count me in! Or so I thought. I was just a little disappointed. Goldie is so full of life and insatiable curiosity, you can’t help but love her. She’s also very smart, but I had to suspend my disbelief sometimes because of the conclusions she jumped to. I can’t wait to continue to see how the queer romance progresses. I adored the setting and style of this comic so much. It’s just so incredibly bright and colourful and looks like it was created in the 60’s. I will say that the dialogue wasn’t my favourite. I didn’t grow up in the 60’s so I don’t know what the slang was but some of it just seemed so out of place and like it was trying too hard to show you it was in the 60’s when you can already tell by the look of it. I did enjoy the mystery overall, but found it confusing at times. I’m not expecting a really elaborate plot for a 114 page comic, but I was often left thinking ‘what on Earth is going on?’ I’ll have to read the second volume to find out if it’s the actual comic or me not paying attention. For the most part this is a fast paced mystery and I especially loved the action scenes. I don’t think it’s supposed to be taken seriously, it’s just a bit of fun for the most part. Overall a fun mystery comic where you’ll have to suspend you disbelief sometimes. Would recommend if you’re looking for a quick and fun ride, but not if you’re looking for an elaborate mystery.

This was different than I expected, but definitely a fun read!

This was really cute. A queer, woc detective? What’s not to like? The little we got of the side characters in this volume was great and I can’t wait to see more of them in the other volumes. I really enjoyed the art style in this as well. Looking forward to reading more.

I love this series! Vol.3 is still my favorite, so far since it is the most realistic one, mystery wise, but this volume is probably my second favorite. Plot is fun, art style is great, characters are all great, there isn't much else to say except, I can't wait for Vol. 5!

Sooo cuteeeee!!!!

WOC queer rep???? Hello???? Where has this been my entire life??? I will gush over it forever!

I was graciously given a copy of this book from NetGalley for an honest review! By day, Goldie Vance is a valet at one of the best hotels in the area, but she is a detective aiming to make her mark on the world by night. When a German man asks for her help to find a missing necklace, Goldie sees this as the mystery of a lifetime. Will she find the necklace? or will it put her in more danger than getting Goldie and her father, who works as a manager for the hotel, fired from their job. Watch out, Nancy Drew, because there is a new detective in town and her name is Goldie Vance! I loved this first volume of a new young adult graphic novel series. Growing up reading the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books, I loved when a mystery starts as something small, ending up being apart of a bigger mystery. The illustrations make it look like the early 60s or 7os and sets up the whole series. There is a great variety of diversity from both skin color and sexual orientation (spoiler alert). Goldie has a crush on the girl working at the record shop. This is a series I can see myself rereading over and over again!

Does anyone know why Brittney Williams didn't illustrate this issue? This comic is so cute!! We get to see the end of a date between Goldie and Diane (have I ever told you how much I love that the titular protagonist is a queer woman of colour??) which is just adorable, but then Goldie gets run over!! Her bike is totalled. But I guess Sugar to the rescue, and now Goldie has a new mystery to solve: who is trying to sabotage Sugar? Even though I don't like the art as much as Brittney's, Noah Hayes' is still pretty neat in a less cute way, and the writing is still lovely, so I'm definitely not gonna drop this comic any time soon.

This was cute! I completely missed it when it first came out, but I’m glad I found it again.

New arc - looking forward to seeing what's going to happen. Needs more Goldie/Diane though.

Quite literally the cutest comic series ever.

Nice ending to this arc. I hope there's more of this comic soon!
