Goldie Vance continues to be a wonderful all-ages comics with great characters, tight writing, and adorable artwork. I'm not quite as fond of this second installment as the first, but it's still an interesting mystery for young and old alike. In this one, Goldie and Cheryl are training to be astronauts (well, Cheryl is), but Goldie's boisterous and extroverted behaviour makes Cheryl feel like her dreams are out of reach. The two of a bit of a falling out right as they are dealing with the discovery of an amnesiac astronaut on the beach Cheryl disappears, and Goldie has to solve this mystery and save her friend! There are some good lessons about how to deal with your friends, and a fun, fast-paced plot. The series definitely deserves more attention!

This was really not my cup of tea. It’s a really diverse graphic novel which is important, but that’s all I can really give it.

Let’s start off with a positive. I love the art style so much. It’s extremely bright and colourful, perfect for the 60s setting. I really want to look into more of the artist’s work.

I found the dialogue to be a little weird. There were just some odd phrases that I guess were supposed to be 60s slang, but it just felt like it was trying too hard. They would also abbreviate things and then put a footnote for what it was abbreviating. Why they couldn’t have just said the full word, I’ve no idea.

I don’t really like Goldie as our protagonist. She only thinks about herself and disregards every rule. I can see where she gets it from though as we’re introduced to her mother in this volume. And does she tell her daughter off for sticking her nose in things she shouldn’t, I hear you ask? No. She helps her! There is absolutely no consequence to her behaviour as she steals (sorry, borrows without permission) things and is never given any punishment.

The mystery and plot were very uninteresting as well, there’s not much else to say about it really.

I just find myself having to suspend my disbelief if I want to enjoy this series. Goldie comes to random conclusions just to make the plot convenient and all the characters are completely unrealistic.

I've read issues #5-8 that will be collected in this volume and it's still going strong. Goldie Vance is one of my favorite series right now. Since each mystery is resolved within 4 issues, kids will love it and not lost interest.

I read this almost immediately after the first comic and it was just as much fun!

Goldie Vance and her best friend Cheryl stumble upon an astronaut girl passed out on the beach. Goldie decides to investigate how she ended up there and Cheryl gets maybe more involved than she should. Also features Goldie and Diane being cute and "mermaids".

The mystery in this one was a bit more interesting than the first trade, although still too convoluted for my taste. I like my mysteries to be a bit more cerebral, but that is just a personal taste. This story is still fun and entertaining and I will be reading on to see what else Goldie gets herself into.

Oh, by the way, this series is getting some Veronica Mars comparisons and it is definitely worth that particular hype.

This series is such a joy and volume two was just as good (if not slightly better?) as the first! I’m loving these characters so much, the art style is gorgeous and the plots are easy to read, addictive and heaps of fun. I also officially want to take all and any future style advice from Dianne and borrow a little of Goldie’s gutsy attitude.

Another super fun addition to this series. Although I didn't love the art style and writing quite as much as the issues by the previous creators, this was still a delight to read and it was so nice to be reunited with Goldie and be thrown into another of her mysteries.
